Cool

Right,
i need a car for work, I do about 120 miles a day so something reasonably economical with a bit of punch and under 10k.
Like the look of Honda Preludes and possibly VR6 Golfs (if I can keep my foot off the floor) What are FTOs like??

Cheers
Stu

Hi Stu,

Never driven the Prelude so cannot comment, but like other Hondas, it will be bombproof

VR6 Golf, yeah, nice, but do you really want a Golf ? (Everyone and his dog and all that).

FTO is a nice car and if it is just for going to work and back is practical. just don't plan to have weekends away 4-up with kit in it If you get a MIVEC tip-tronic auto (whatever it's called), that is something like 200bhp but can still return good economy when on cruise. The MIVECs sound very nice too Oh, and I know of a good silver one for sale

Cheers

Ian

Thumbs up

I'd be tempted to look at the turbo'd car options, e.g. Volvo T4 / 2.0T (3 year olds now under 10K), early Saab 9-3 LPT, Peugeot 406 SRi Turbo (every rep's got one but these are very quick & totally discreet).

All these are pretty economical, not flash and are very punchy for overtaking etc.

Cheers,
Im leaning towards the 2.2vti prelude at the moment although the FTOs do look nice. Got any experience of either???

Honda Vtec engines are greaaat on paper and track.

To get any power for an overtaking manouver you either have to sit behind them at 6000 revs or take a run up!. Pants.

Turbo torque is the way to overtake!

Phil.

puma 1.7, i had one once, nice little motor, easy on the fuel and a bag of fun. cost **** all to run really. controls easy to use and well laid out, good stereo, hatchback practicality.
not a perfect car by any means, but better than a golf IMHO.

Wink

This isn't a biased opinion but it has to be a 306 GTi6. Look at the piccie you can see me at castle combe leaving the EVO 6 pace car for dead. Hee Hee!

Honestly they are great cars, and maybe if you stretched to £12k you could buy mine, then i could add a few grand and go and buy an Impreza Type-r.
If you were thinking of one then i know a fair bit about them.

The integra feels a bit cheap and the VR6 is very boring, both my mates have them.

DOH! didn't see the £10k bit.

GTI-6 is a good choice. What about a Civic VTi? similar pace, not quite on the handling stakes, but far better fuel consumption.

Or early Mk4 Golf TDi?
