Hi all I have a 1993 wrx ra which I've had on going problems with now after rebuilding and fitting new engine it will only idle as soon as you try to give it some revs it stutters and bogs down full throttle and it just dies anyone any idea what's going on no fault codes new pump filter and maf no obvious vaccum leaks and I've renewed all the pipes it doesn't miss fire on idle idles really well and fires on straight away

 

It sounds like lack of fuel. Mine did the exact same thing and it was a split in the rubber hose on the fuel pump.

 

Fuel lines plumbed into the filter the wrong way,blocked filter or possible split/kinked fuel line?

 

Checked the timing belt? One of my friends had a similar issue, on a fresh build. The car would idle, but, it was an absolute ******* pig to try and drive.

Inlet and exhaust cams were 180 degrees out on the nearside head. Suprised it ran at all.

Checked the coil packs? You make no mention of whether they have been replaced. They break down as they get older, the heat from the heads makes them brittle and crack under the rubber boot.

Just another couple of ideas for you to look at.

 

Hmmm that sounds familiar,I'm sure I read a similar problem on here a while a go,something like cam and crank sensor wires mixed up? Is that possible?

 

Thanks for the help I will check the coils or get a new set and check fuel pressure again timming is good already checked the belt not sure on crank and cam sensor but I will check them

 

I can't remember how long the wires on the plugs are. IIRC it is possible to plug one of the injectors into the cam sensor wire though.

 

That was it Micky,someone had got the cam sensor mixed up with an injector and got the same symptoms.

 

This happened to me and it was my dump valve leaking, dunno if this helps but thought it was worth a mention

 

Ok thanks I will double check injector wiring and dump valve as well

 

are all the electrics (alternator) connected up and battery fully charged?
