Why do people feel the need to keep watching something they don't like?
I don't like Corry or Eastenders so I make a point in not watching them because I know I won't like them.
The same people every week (when it's on) say the don't like it but will watch it anyway then moan about it later and say they didn't like it, WTF?

I don't. See above post I was referring to others in this thread.
I stopped a few series back when the set ups started making me cringe.
Shame as I used to love it before it became the slapstick show it is now

I still watch repeats of Top Gear on Dave. Some of the episodes are truly great in terms of content and originality. Perhaps the reason we moaners watch TG is in the forlorn hope there may just be an episode that returns to form.

It's gone world wide in it's current guise and I doubt they will go back to the old set up.

Correct. My mate had a Metro Turbo and the rare times it wasn't in the garage me and another mate used to cane it in all departments. He had a Mk2 Golf GTI and I had a Mk1 Campaign. Brilliant cars for their day. Sold mine and saw it many years later still in the ownership of the guy I sold it to and it had 250K on it with only a short engine rebuild although he did say the gearbox had got a bit sloppy

I have no idea why folk watch something they don't like then waste time moaning about it.
I like TG. Its a good show.
Shame they didn't include a 205GTI. But then everyone knows the 205 would have beaten the Seat

The golf however does nothing for me, they looked bland and boring..... typical vw. a bit of modding like we do with our scoobs and the metro could easily over power the golf as it has more scope for tuning being turbocharged.
All in my opinion of course ;-)

Im not doubting the golf being a good car. But in my opinion the metro was a hotter hatch, or maybe not so much hotter, just dafter which is what i like, yeah sure they were rot boxes like most other things in that era but i just have a soft spot for them.

And as it happens the Metro didn't have much scope for modding as they couldn't handle any more power. They were sh1te, not just IMO, but in the opinion of just about anyone normal
The Golf was about what it could do rather than what it looked like and what it could do wasn't surpassed until the 205GTI put in an appearance.

They were little more than a re-bodied mini
Which was a groundbreaking design in its time - 1959
(Ps the original mini great car - I still have my 1965 cooper s)

Except you implied the Golf was slower than the Metro in your first post... it wasn't! Now you are picking on the way the Golf looked..... er compared to a Metro they are f**king masterpieces! Slightly understated, but all the better for it.... if Subaru had made it they would of course have stuck a stupid wing on it somewhere

My wife bought a brand new metro 1.1 in 1993, although it never broke down it was horrific to drive with the worst steering I have ever experienced ( I have a 40 year old benford dumper truck with better steering !)
It was sold before it's third birthday and was already riddled with rust.
How any one can say they were better than a golf of that era is beyond me. Saying that I wouldn't buy a VW now.

I thought that Golf looked quite tidy; I had that model too.
My Mum had a Metro Vanden Plas; it had no redeeming features at all; a true pig of a car.
The show was silly, cringey, embarrassing but it's better than most other cr4p at the moment.

I bet that tranny van they lifted 10 ft and then dropped was in perfect working order, it looked quite new. What is clever about doing that ? Why not say 'we were going to lift this van 10 foot and then drop it to show you how strong our big magnet is. But instead we decided to sell it and give the money to a well deserved charity' . and then they could have demonstrated that great big strong magnet on an old ****e van instead. Id much rather see something like that being done. Sometimes they show a grown up episode like when they did that tribute to Lancia. That was good. Most of the time tho they just act like children doing these stupid childish ****e games.

Indeed but horrendous "security," no brakes and a bit tinny but still good.
Dad had the 7th mk1 GTI in the UK then one of the last 1.8s (which got heavily tuned from new). We had our mk2 GTI in the family for almost 12 years!

Stop all this Metro hating, I had a n/a 1300 MG one to be fair it wasn't a bad car! All cars from that era were rot boxes, Fiestas were twice as bad and equally as dated! There is nothing wrong with the handling either, you can throw them into corners with no drama, not the fastest things in the world but relatively robust.

They still are rot boxes, maybe to a lesser extent. There are more around due to the fact the is a huge Dub scene so they have either been well looked after or restored. I had a Golf diesel the same vintage as my metro which I ended taking to the tip because I could be arsed welding on two sills, two rear arches and front valance!
