Rainbow bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm crying my eyes out reading that :-(
Mine is a fussy eater too, would quite happily not eat his tea for days but then obviously that makes his stomach bad and he ends being sick if we don't get something into him.
We use 3-4 different decent brands of wet food, and they have something added to make him eat it, tuna, sardines, cheese, scrambled egg, sausages etc.
I think you're right about the excess acid leading to ulcers, which can then rupture and lead to internal bleeding.
Billythekid, I'll look into that that thanks.
I know the vet can prescribe ranitidine (Zantac) but just feeding little and often seems to be managing it
If only dogs could tell us what was wrong.

Sorry pal we have two sheps the old mans getting near. But I'm to soft last one was very bad but as every one says time helps just remember if you feel this way be proud that you have loved him so much
There's no pain like loosing a Dog.
I've wanted a GSD since I was about 4 or 5, when I was 7 my parents got me a Rough 'Lassie' Collie, he wasn't a GSD but he was 'my' dog.
He died a week before my 20th birthday and I was a complete wreck. I'm an only kid and my Dad was in the army so we moved home a fair bit and I was real close with Benjie.
My parents got a rescue whippet/lurcher mongrel a few months later and although we did get really close she was always my mums dog.
Summer 2012 me and the GF had her mums Dog for a week and it made me realise how much I'd missed having a Dog and about 6 weeks later I went and picked up a 14 week old GSD puppy.
It's safe to say the 30 year wait in getting my own GSD was worth it.
He's totally 100% my Dog, he does everything I tell him instantly but ignores everything my GF tells him to do, which I find very funny
He's always been really clumsy and always seems to have tunnel vision so after running into a park bench I took him to the vets who referred him to a specialists for an MRI scan. One of the vets there thought it might be a brain tumour
I left him at the clinic in Solihull and went to Birmingham to do some Christmas shopping.
I spent all day in a daze lost worrying about my dog.
Turns out part of his brain is under developed and he'll spend the rest of his life un-coordinated
I cant imagine being without the silly bugger now, I've been through what the OP's going through and it's just awful
To the OP, it's just bad luck that your boy hasn't got into his old age.
Go through the grieving process and let things heal, it's a cliché but time will heal, then as someone else mentioned, get yourself down to a rescue home and give another dog a second chance for a loving home

to be honest I think he knew, he'd been quiet with little interest in anything over the last couple of days. when in the little vets room, when they gave us some time for goodbyes, I was in a heap on the floor, cuddling him and telling him the vet couldn't mend him, that he'd been the best dog ever! that we all loved him very much and that it had got to happen to stop him suffering.........he came forward towards me and licked my face as if to say goodbye dad..............what a dog!!!

We currently have four horses, a Border Collie, two Siamese and a whole load of chickens. They all have their place. I've had to help euthanize five horses so far, due to old age and sickness. You don't get used to it, only accustomed to the detail. Our Collie had a second life, having been run over by a Transit van when only a year old, she was rebuilt by a clever (and expensive!) surgeon. She's now 15.. We take the view that the welfare of our animals come first, and you just gotta do the "right thing", even if it means the end of life comes early.
We have pictures of all of them on our kitchen wall, and when the time comes, we just add another one.

the loss of a dog isn't just a pet, its a part of the family group so its painful to say the least
