iPad Air ....
Oh and Tony, making a laptop/tablet last 5 years shouldbe easy enough. My old Fuji Siemens laptop lasted 6 years before I retired it and my ipad is coming up on 3 years with no trouble.
In the last 5 years I'm on my 4th laptop as I like having a good spec so I'm always upgrading, A 5 year old laptop won't be up to much as memory and hard drive will be so low and I presume downloading and viewing the web will cause the laptop to run slow?

My 5 year old hp laptop has had a new lease of life with a ssd hdd install, I run 2Gb of ram aswell. Easily a match for my wife's new i7 Intel laptop.
Also had mine a few days, 16GB 4G/WIFI version. As above much lighter and thinner than the 2, also a great improvement on the speed of loading games and apps. Happy so far. Also got a 5s at the same time which I can report only good things so far.
Not really - I bought an Air for my wife - £400 - but her old iPad 1 is likely to fetch close to £100 - I don't think that's too bad

Cost me £220 to upgrade from a 3G 16 gig ipad2 to wifi only 32 gig ipad air.
Could have got more for the 2 but priced it for a quick sale.
The air seems significantly smaller and lighter to use than it is on paper. A good bit faster (but then my 2 was never slow). Smart case expensive but works really well and doesn't add to the bulk at all (unlike the cases and covers fro earlier ipads.
Only negative observation is that the glass does sometimes feel plasticky compared to the 2, but its hardly an issue.
All in a worthy upgrade from the 2, but for anyone thinking about it I'm not so sure I'd have bothered from a 3 or 4, unless size and weight were that important.
Would consider upgrading iPad 1 (because it keeps crashing in Safari, probably runs out of memory and some new software won't work on iOS 5 which is the max it will "upgrade" to), but can't be bothered with the hassle of selling it on ebay for example. Any trade in deals that are OK?
My Dad says he keeps his iPad 1 to slice his lime on to put in his breakfast vodka and thinks it may be useful for hand to hand combat in the care home.

Take a look at Diet Coda, it contains Prompt which is a good terminal on it's own. The FTP is based on Transmit so that's great too.

OK new to these iPad things so am I missing something here?
I have IOS 7.0.3 running and I have a PIN number set to access the device. If I wake the device up I get a screen telling me to swipe whereupon I get another screen to enter my PIN number which opens the device (widgets displayed etc.)
However if I wake the device up and instead of swiping drag the camera up to open the camera and then press the home button I have access to the device (widgets displayed etc.) without entering my PIN? Surely this is wrong yes?

It isn't the initial release it's 7.0.3, I only updated it a week ago, saw the 7.0.4 release but no mention of this issue on the release notes.

Is it still the case that you can only run a single iTunes user on iPad? I fancy getting one for me and the wife to share but would I assume only one of you can be logged into apps like Facebook?
