I'd still be driving my first car if I thought like that
I'll be making the jump because it'll have 4G internet, will have more space on board and most importantly will be better at loading large PDF files and image-intensive webpages.
My iPad 2 struggles a little with some of the things I ask of it these days, it is nearly two and a half years old, mind.
Same logic went into upgrading from my iPhone 4 to the new 5s, I had that phone for over three years.
Still on my MacBook Pro from 2008 though!

In all honesty it depends what she uses it for.
For browsing the Internet occasionally on a local WiFi connection, probably not.
If she intends to use it something a bit more like a laptop then it's probably a worthwhile upgrade, there's quite a jump in speed and screen quality.

Have to say i'm tempted by doing this too. Its served us well so far but it's getting a bit glitchy and it's not as quick as it used to be. That and running iOS5 means some apps are starting to drop support for it.
Tell ya what, the mini is tempting too. Same chipset as the air just on a smaller screen.

Read a lot about this iPad Air and the size/weight hence portability is what attracts me. I confidently predicted they would never catch on and I would never own one, but after using my partner's iPad2 off and on I think I'm sold....OMG!!!!

Typing on one now.
Very sleek and response time is noticeable, not that the 4 was slow.
It's the first time I've preferred the look of the white over the black.
I've got a black one, but the wife got the white.
