Who has the oldest original Impreza?

Have you ever worked in the car industry or for an OEM? There are many many things that go on in terms of cars ID and spec not matching up. I have no doubt at all that this car could have left the factory as blue but been silver on the VIN plate, even more so because it was number 1. Number 1 was probably produced for a very special customer who could have specified pretty much anything he wanted in my experience of working at OEM's, if your important enough you can have pretty much anything in terms of paint etc.

For starters its not 'number 1'. It was merely the first one off the line in March of that year.
I don't even think Subaru were using that colour in early 94 and they certainly wouldn't of sent one out brand new with a miss printed vin plate.

Pmsl...you believe that this hand built car which was one of the very first sti version, if no. 000/100 was produced which prob was as no no. 013 ... Which Subaru launched with a brochure etc....a special car.....and they got the paint code wrong on it !
It's not as if they produced hundreds of thousands....you could fit the 100 vin tags in your pocket !
That colour didn't even exist in the factory of that year !
I,m not buying it ...

Do Subaru have a historian or a heritage department? Many other manufacturers do, and if FHI are as proud of their heritage as I'd expect, it would seem reasonable that they have a point of contact who could verify the details of the early cars.
Or else perhaps their QA system, which must have ensured some kind of traceability, could provide more details?

im inclined to believe the mis match of colour on the vin plate - i work in vehicle manu and ive have seen bad vin info with my very own eyes, even vehicles DELIVERED with the same serial number. these companies are not perfect and mistakes/short cuts are made. vin plate was prob made up ready for the end of the line but then body colour was changed last minute per request.

You say the colour didnt exist just because it wasn't offered as an option, that does not mean it didnt exist. There are manufacturers out there that will paint your vehicle any colour you want for a price, none of them are in the brochure or options list but they exist.

Lol ... The customer was so special they didn't think to change a 50p vin tag...
They managed it on the white sti version 5 ra limited.
I think you would need to be special to believe that ..

The Impreza was being developed for and first used in rallying in 1993. Is it possible David's shell was one intended for conversion to a WRC car and painted blue in preparation for shipping to Prodrive, but was then not used for this and sent out as a road going car instead?
If the shell was already blue, but blue wasn't a customer option, it would have been easier to just put the VIN plates on it and send it out rather than have it stripped and resprayed silver.

I don't disbelieve that subaru would paint the car a certain colour if a customer specially ordered it and didn't care about the cost. But I don't believe subaru would send such car out with the wrong paint code on the vin plate.
I understand that mistakes happen but in the early days the sti was built away from the production line and would of been worked on with the upmost care and attention. Remember the first ones were transformed into an sti by hand, hence the limited numbers. And if it was a special order car it would of been under even more scrutiny.

I think David is a fraud and his engine building business is just a front for a more sinister subaru cut and shut business. He's been rumbled thats why he was so defensive.
You should be ashamed David !!!

here is some of what I anticipate to be the Imprezas that will appracite in value, purely because they are limited runs, Series MacRae, 200 built Catalunya, 200 built Terzo, 333 built RB5 - 444 built But in particular 22b Cant remember how many built 400 worlwide IIRC P1 - 1000 built s201 - 300 built Then the type R's and RAs. Limited editions will always become more sought after purely because they are limited. Or perhaps not. Time will tell. But then we have the new age limited cars too, S202 203 204, WR1, RB320 etc. I see some of them definitely appreciting in value.

My RB320 has been put away, paid £19,800 for it about 3 years ago.
It is still depreciating at the minute, but while most other surviving RB320's, (the last time I checked the How Many Left site, there were only about 256 left, can't get the site to work at the minute), currently have 40-60,000 miles on them, mines only has 18,000.
For me it isn't just about the money, I want to still be taking the RB320 to shows etc when I am 70, (45 now), because I think it is such a beautiful beast of a car
In the meantime, I am having to make do with a white Hawkeye STI, poor me

Although that comment was harsh its a good thing someone replied to the thread because the car mentioned on one of the pages has been bough and the new owner is trying to work out what happened
