Don't mate, that's another story altogether, the day of her car's mapping was to begin with si,the gearbox that was sold as mint condition was a bag of nails and now is in the process of getting shipped to Alyn of ASPerformance for a strip down and report,to say I was pissed is an understatement.SJ.

Learnt this the hard way!

Now i buy everything like that as spares or repair, i refuse to pay top dollar for something I cant test inspect etc!

Safest bet is just assume it needs a rebuild! It really sucks when it happens though, I had a brand new engine in my starlet that was nothing like "brand new" shells not torqued up etc!

As much as I like performance Johnny music has always played it's roll in my cars since I passed my test all them years ago.But since going ahead with this project a lot of plans have changed so I will have to wait and see how I feel about the situation, but for now it's staying.SJ.

Not had it long enough to get it dirty yet

Have heard you need a Hoover with a soft brush attachment or similar.

I got myself a Henry Hoover as part of my detailing gear and I'm positive that it's got a small brush attachment that should be perfect for the job, thanks for the heads up.SJ.

Engine is coming together now just a few more parts needed and it should be nearly ready for arranging finishing connections. If there is one bit of advice I can give anyone who is thinking of doing a build is if you have say 10k to do one, budget yourself another 2/3k just for the miscellaneous parts that you will definitely need to finish it,those are the killers,I am finding that out first hand.Anyway here's some quick pics of my inlet manifold coming together.SJ.

Looking nice Adrian.

Why the swap to larger throttle body? Stock TB will flow over 700bhp. Surely this will be slowing gas speed?

Thanks frayz Yeah I was debating changing it at first because I knew that the standard one would be sufficient, but it was more say to do with appearance at the time as the standard one is easily weathered and starts to look abit dull, but also after talking to a few mates from NASIOC who have been running the Cosworth inlet for a while now, told me that after testing one and recording figures that the Cosworth inlet gave better power in the midrange and top end with a bigger TB fitted so I guess I will have to wait and see,Anyway it's no biggie to change it over again if I'm not achieving the desired results. At the stage that I am at now my engine every part that has been used is to my own selection,if there is something that Neil thinks would be detrimental or just simply a waste of money he will advise me otherwise but it's not happened yet so just enjoying it coming together at the moment,I will keep you posted.SJ.

Echo that statement SJ, the little bits quickly add up and getting the right combination of parts is important to the overall build.

budget advice is spot on, perhaps even a little conservative with the contingency; I'd go £5k...TB is bloody lovely

As nice as it is for that sort of budget I'd consider selling up and buying a faster car, but never say never (as he goes of to price up the hose and unions for a parallel fuel rail set-up)

Great work

Before I started my project I wanted a Porsche 911,but after driving one I wasn't sold.I think there is something special about crafting your own machine, and that was what was lacking when I had my 911 vision.I am a modifier I always have been and need something that I could tinker with and put my own identity on it,knowing that it's a quick car for the way that I modded it and wanted it to be,and not just getting one out of the box. There is not much exotica that can deal with a 550+ Bhp Subaru i can tell you that, and that's me being conservative.SJ.
