Fittinh went ok everntually, trying to make parts designed to fit an impreza engine bay work in the legacy engine bay isnt so straight forward. So I had to use the standard olf vf36 up-pipe with the aftermarket headers as the aftermarker up pipe was fouling on the subframe. Some minor tweaking here and there and turbo is now in.

So i've ordered a Process West TMIC kit, there isnt that many options for the Legacy unforunately with this being the only one that will work with legacy intake manifold with an aftermarket sti styel turbo.

It looks like this for reference, comes with a new air splitter to go onto the underside of the bonnet scoop to maximise air flow through the core

back onto TMIC setup, no date for mapping as of yet but should be able to get it within two weeks of when i have the car ready to map. Car drives so much nicer on a TMIC, much more responsive!

On Irish fuel, i doubt it! Best available these days over here is 95 unleaded. It would be nice to get closer to it anyway!

Hows the kinugawa turbo running to the members who have previously fitted and posted in this thread? As I got in contact with Bruce at kinugawa lastnight but i`m only looking at the tho4hl as a standard replacement if it will fit and not needing a remap. They offer it with a billet compressor wheel and a 11 blade turbine wheel as I dont know much about these I take it its an upgrade than what you get on the standard mitsibishi td04L?

Would be interested in any views on the 18G or 20G, billet or non-billet.

I think the 20g with a splash of meth would probably net approx 400 mate. But and it's a big but I'd put a little more in and opt for the SC 42 from Scoobyclinic. Ball bearing vs journal bearing and the SC42 is billet wheeled. It will get you 400 bhp top and it's very spooly. You get what you pay for.

I know what your saying maz,but 1800 quid is a fair whack of cash mate,if I was a rich man I'd go for the SC in a heartbeat but my budget can't stretch that far. Just looking at options and these turbos seem to be getting the thumbs up everywhere.

Question Kinugawa actuator Spring rating ?

Right at the top of this thread you will see a Kingugawa Actuator.

I have one of these but I have not fitted it yet. (engine still in bits)

I also have a China "after market" TD05 16G on which the WG actuator started to open very early (too early) circa 5-6 psi, you cannot fully reach the called for boost level if this happens. Its said that the actuator should be rated to open at about half the pressure you intend for max boost. It goes without saying that the mid range torque pulling power is also not what it could be.

Im running 21 psi (map calls for anyway ) . ergo I need probably to fit a spring inside that opens at circa 11psi 0.8 bar .

Id like to know from the author of this thread what spring rate he used. I also have a 1 bar and 1.2 rated spring available.

Kinguwa do a whole range of these springs to match the turbo you are using.

No market for prices west in UK so no one distributes them I believe. I got mine from Australia. At the time it was the best option for my legacy.

Wink Reliability points to consider on Kinguwa 18g

I took a look at the photo and description of the Kinguwa in the link above. And will give an opinion, but not one of experienced with it.

The 1 bar actuator ( presumably means starts to open at 1.0 bar ) should give a good response to build boost. I doubt somehow that any turbo in this price class it will run a advertised max 2.8 bar boost for long , but the description does show someone has put some thought into beefing up the bearings / flange on it. Also in the picture are the water pipes and these are shown in place and look to clear the mounting to the manifold , that's something that with other China cheapy turbos is not always a given, I ended up modifidling the TD04 pipes and enlarging unions for the larger bolt as on a China cheapy TD05 16G that I bought from a US importer the dam things had no chance for clearance. This means however that my water cooling is as on the original smaller pipe diameter, not a good thing. The other item i notice about the Kinguwa kit photo is a flex pipe which is presumably for the oilway. All in all Id say its been thought out by someone who knows what works to make it a reliable Turbo , but I expect as soon as I say that 5 members will come back and say they blew them up.

Bear in mind that the Actuator shown is not adjustable in opening gate pressure ( but Kinguwa do have an extra Actuator) which I have and that's a fine piece of engineering. I would suggest that tuning the opening pressure of the waste gate will give many an earlier boost build up , especially if your are using a large volume Intercooler. Anyone using a 18G especially 20G will know how important that is to get right, otherwise boost lag makes the car iritable to drive daily and you will be left at the lights by Fiat Pandas.

Lets hope to hear what some has to say about fitting and running one .

Regards Linksfahrer
