Now having seen your registration number on your RR plot I now know that I literally live a couple of hundred yards away from you.

I've seen the stickered up Blobeye pass the bottom of my street and it's got a pretty loud exhaust to day the least.

Once my car is back I'll pop by for a chat.

Yeah I live on Corporation Avenue, you cant miss the house becasue there is a caravan, Peugeot 206 gti and a white Pajero in the driveway haha!

Welcome Chris

Good results there from the turbo, and if it performs well and gives no problems then that could be a real bargain for people on a budget build as a decent turbo is a whopping part of the process so as jay said, good darts fingers crossed all runs well and you have good feedback.

I'm based between 2 places one up in Bargoed and one down in Amroth where I'm currently so will probably catch you at some point when the meets get going down west Wales way, be interested to see how you get along with it as I know a few boys who have looked at these but have stayed away because of the eBay rep and the saying "buy cheap but twice", so as said fingers crossed for you pal and good on you for sharing your results, I'm sure alot of people will be interested and keep an eye on this thread

Worth noting that these are coming from Japan. I'd be more inclined to trust a turbo from there than China.

they say on there ebay listing they are from japan , but they come from taiwan

It's still pulling strong! I changed the engine oil and filter yesterday and everything is nice and clean No funny noises or hesitant spools, it's performing flawlessly!

It's still only done about 3000 miles because I live pretty close to my place of work! I'm hoping to get the rest of the car sorted soon and put it through a track day, that should test it's performance a little lol, just hope the rest of the car can hold its durability! Only thing I'm scared of really is the gearbox. But I guess as long as I don't smash it into gears and drop a cog harshly it should withhold!

What is the deal with these turbos. Since i've seen this tread on here I've trailed NASIOC and found an interesting thread on these and they seem like a cracking piece of kit for the price. But how can the ebay site be trusted against the brand as we know ebay turbo's are usually **** at best.

As i understand it Kinugawa & kamak are the same and sell in NZ but the ebay links are japanese ??
so begs the question are they cheap knock offs or are they worth a punt ??

My mate has a cheap £200er on his ra its a td0520g and it makes around 380bhp. Hes had it on his car for two years now and has no problem at all with it. Some are good and some are crap

im probably going to go for the TD05 20G twinscroll on mine with the billet wheel, it will be interesting to see how it performs vs the current vf36 Im not sure if the 20G will be too laggy on mine though

I'm going to try the td06 60-1. 8cm housing they can't be all bad based on the reviews in the states. Don't normally do this but I'm will to test one out and give my own review. If it fails then lesson learnt and I'll buy a more expensive one.

do you know what would be the better option the TD05-20G with billet wheel or td06-20G with billet wheel, both twinscroll variants. and uprated actuator?
This was my last reply from them:

Basicly VF36 turbinr wheel is much smaller than TD05H or TD06SL2 turbine wheel.
So VF36 will spool faster.
Billet wheel is used for make more airflow and reduce balance vibration on top end.
But it will not make turbo spool faster.

But this twin scroll turbine is same as the VF36 housing.
We just machine it to fit TD05H/TD06SL2 wheel.
Twin scroll will still spool fast with TD05H turbine wheel.

I personal suggest TD05H-20G twin scroll turbo with billet wheel.
That is a good option for make it keep fast spool and get good top end as well.

strange they say a billet wheel does not make it spool faster as surely that is the purpose of a billet wheel?

I also understood the TD06 had a larger exhaust housing meaning it was lggaier but made more top end power then the sammler TD05? weird

Had a reply off the guy today, will supply me a td06 setup with the billet wheel 1 year warranty balanced to 125,000 vsr 1.5mg
even willing to offer 5% discount too

Haha, yeah it's still alive! Opened up the throttle yesterday down the Gower and it was pulling lovely! Still putting a smile on my face

Hi, mines running 360/360 and is getting a new box fitted on Wed', stripped 3rd on Monday; would it be strange of me to feel a bit pleased I had enogh power to achieve this

Yeah it's going very well indeed! Tax was due last month which was a bit of a sickener but hey, it's gotta be done haha. Just keeping an eye out for an sti gearbox next

My hawkeye had a kinugawa TD06 20G 7cm turbo fitted running 440/500 and was a cracking turbo! I will be buying another

I think I have read all this thread but a couple of questions.

You have an 06 WRX 2.5 with the standard internals and have remapped to 365/342?

I have a 56 WRX 2.5 remapped to 285/342 on standard TD04.

First question - amazed nobody has put on here that your engine is a 'ticking time bomb' that you see on every 2.5 thread it seems at the moment?

Secondly - you have a lot more bhp than me clearly but the same lbft?

When it was remapped did you intentionally get them to keep the torque below 350? As if I am correct it's the torque that kills WRX gearboxes normally if you go over the 350 mark?

Also very interested in this as I have the 2.5 2006 WRX currently running 285/350 on standard turbo and have been looking at this Kinugawa TD05-18g at it's replacement.

I'd obviously like to keep within the torque limit of the 5 speed but at the same time up the peak power (and have it hold much higher up the rev range) like 350/350 I'd be delighted with.

I read a post on here from the late Harvey Smith stating that in his opinion (and lets face it he was a real guru) that the Hawkeye 5 speeds are stronger than the earlier ones and should be good for up to 400 bhp/torque as long as they're not launched, or driven poorly.

I also have it on good advice that the The EJ255 (WRX) and EJ257 (STI) cases are the same. The differences are just in the piston domes, which in turn contributes to the compression ratio, wrx has slightly higher compression (8.5 vs 8.2) but neither are stronger/weaker than the other apparently.

Well after much reading on Aus and US sites and conversations with Kinugawa technical over the last few days I've bitten the bullet this afternoon and ordered up the Kinugawa TD05 18G with 8cm hotside.

The guy I was emailing from the company could not have been more helpful, I've sent no less than 15 emails to him over the last two days with umpteen questions and each one has been responded to within a couple of hours and with excellent technical knowledge and advice.

I also directly asked about their relationship with Kamak turbo's (their parent company and a very highly regarded turbo manufacturer). Apparently Kamak and Kinugawa turbo's are made in the same factory with the same tooling and materials, Kinugawa are the value brand of Kamak and while absoutely made to the same high standards they lack (unless specced otherwise) the cutting edge turbo technology of the Kamak turbo's like the billet compressor wheels, 9 blade sts turbine wheels, billet adjustable actuators etc etc. They come with a 1 year warranty against manufacturer defects.

Got it at a great discount too, £465 delivered in about 5 days via EMS courier and packaged in such a way to minimise the chances of getting stung for import fees. I'd initially been looking at second hand VF43's but I was getting offered 50k milers for like £400 then you have the cost of new gaskets etc (which are included with the Kinugawa)

Looking forward to getting it now
