All other issues aside, one of the things that I don't understand (maybe I am missing something) is that to me it would seem that the majority of eastern Europeans come here and take the low paid jobs that hardly pay any TAX, far less than they cost the government to supply them with healthcare/benefits etc (more so if they have family). If I am correct then surely it would be plain to see that each person that comes increases our country's debt even if they do benefit some businesses with "cheap" (to the business) labour. Is my logic here wrong?
It's an intresting one because I know on the odd occasion I do visit my Health Center (and once I wait the two weeks for an appointment) it's chocked full with Eastern Europeans.

So there's either an awfull lot of them up here or their all hypochondriacs.

Just been reading about these in the Daily Mail today and apparently there is a loop hole in the law that allows them to enter the country and register as a Big Issue seller and therefore be instantly eligible for benefits due to being self employed.

Maybe why all the big issue sellers are foreign now as we are importing them in, god bless em

But so what, if it's true? Perhaps other papers should try printing the truth and not just what the Z-listers are doing this week?

I agree with you completely.

So many people I hear asking why our politicians so keen on selling this country down the river. Those who mention it think that they just don't care about the people or our country.

For anyone who cares (and is prepared to believe a word of what he said ), quite interesting interview on the Andrew Marr show this morning with Ian Duncan-Smith. Virtually the entire interview devoted to such topics as overuse of the right-to-family-life exception for convicted foreign criminals fighting deportation, benefit-tourism within the EU, benefit-tourism and immigration generally from Romania and Bulgaria specifically, etc.

So far as the subject of this thread is concerned, he seemed to think that Britain wasn't alone among better-off EU member states in wanting to bring in official curbs on benefit-tourism (he mentioned The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark several times on that point), and with those other countries on-side something might actually get done about it.
He also pointed out that based on stats for where most Romanian and Bulgarian migrants have traveled up until now, the majority will probably end up in Germany or Spain.

Should be on iPlayer as usual, fairly near the beginning of the show:

The news broadcast I'll always remember was the BBC from the Sangatte camp in France near Calais. This was back when people were hiding themselves in trucks without the drivers' knowledge or even hiding under trucks or the Eurostar to get over here, and the illegal camp was big news.
The BBC were filming a large group of North Africans who were delighted to be on camera and kept waving and saying " We love Tony Blair".

That smarmy insincere arsehole has always got right up my nose.
And still does when I see him and remember he's still milking us for his own ends.

The Tony Blair Foundation.
Do me a favour.

First time in an AGE I've been able to watch a politician on TV without shouting at him/her, or switching off.

He'd get my vote....if ONLY he would do as he says he wants to.....

I think it is more like that they want to destroy all the Eu countries existence as individual entities and cobble them all together into an amorphous mass with them in total control of us all!

I would much rather that we run our own country in the way that we personally want to with the democratic powers that we still have and which that would entail.
