New perhaps not, but slightly more understandable in a wartime or immediate-post-war economy, IMHO.

I'm loving the way that all the blame is being put on those at the start of the supply chain.

The difference today is that we are being told that it is beef in our food, not horse.
If you know it is horse then you can make a choice.

Horsemeat was available in the days when food was rationed and beef portions were very small. The horsemeat was perfectly good to eat anyway.

I bet you remember the old Pathe newsreels at the cinema Pete. They were always very good and often more interesting than the films anyway. Bob Danvers Water did such a good positive commentary.

There was a programme on tv about them, fascinating to watch.
