Absolutely shít
I think its fair to say that if your running potenza RE070 I wouldn't entertain trying them on a gradient, they may be a good tyre for the summer, but by Christ they don't know the meaning of grip given this weather, still gets me about but as soon as a bit of gradient is thrown in to the equation its game over diff lock or not it don't friggin move

They're rock hard in summer, never mind winter

Tell me about it!
First real experience with RE070's tbh and especially in this weather, lets just say they won't be seeing another winter ill keep them for track or the pod and will invest in a set of winter tyres for these rims, not in to the idea of spending £600-£800 on tyres for winter but will certainly be getting some sort of winter tyres, so far matadors are looking promising and not too far over what I would ideally like to spend.

Don't get me wrong, the RE070 is a fantastic tyre
Its not surprising it just sits spinning all four wheels with those.
After all they're not exactly full of thread.
My car on the other hand copes ok with the current conditions with Dunlop SP Sport tyres - its not perfect by any means, but like you I'm not keen on the idea of spending a bunch of money on tyres for winter, never mind the storage issue.
But I'll not be buying another set of these Dunlops - they make the RE070's sound quiet

My N/A classic was doing more than awsome IMO. I run on summer tires and only thing I had trouble with is stopping with my ABS going crazy and sliding straight through junctions etc. But that only happened once when I was thinking about god know what.
Actually I have recorded a video of it going up the hill in snow:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bpZQsRT2E4
I actually had to wait like 10 minutes until a BMW 3 series driver give up going up there. He slid backwards with wheels spinning like 15 times before he gave up and asked his SATNAV for a reroute
And yea, over confident SUV drivers doing like 100mph+ on a semi-covered in snow lane on motorway are bloody scary! :O

This is the difference between a car with summer tyres on and one with winter tyres on, the summer tyre car is all over the place, the amount of times you had to correct (even mid bend ) is scary, and your braking distance is horrendous!
The car was all over the place!
On good winter tyres it would have been like driving on a nice summers day, and I jest you not, thats how much difference there is, straight line braking would have been good, you wouldnt have had to correct every 2 seconds (especially mid bend!) and you wouldnt have gone pair shaped at the junction.
Its still funny as even though people with experience of driving on both summer and winter tyres in snow, those who drive on just summer tyres say they had no problems yet us winter tyre fitted car owners say the opposite.

I agree my 05 sti on summers went ok and better than many other road users on summers, however my tdi fwd golf on Dunlop winter sports was in an entirely different league, Next year the sti will have winters as well giving me the best of both worlds as both my Mrs and need to travel in all conditions

Well I had re070 tyres on two years ago when we had the last load of snow and I managed but have ran winter tyres since and there is no comparison winter tyres give far more grip, don't think my abs has cut in once yet with careful driving, ok if a little to much throttle mid bend it goes sideways but that's down to the driver. Braking is the biggest improvement though.
