Same here, was speaking with Sky this evening and they were telling me I had 16meg but on checking I'm only really getting 11 meg. Oh well, it will do until Virgin cable my street.

Lol. We were with them at the old house. We had line rental, broadband, HD, calls, Sports, everything but movies. The last bill was £92!!! I cancelled but we currently get all the post re-directed, we've been offered loads of packages, the one before last was everything free for three months with no contract, last week I got another, 75% off everything for 12 months!!! I'm happy with the BT deal though, everything we need for 1/3 of our final bill with no need to phone up for reductions!

I used to play them off one another, Sky and Virgin. But last time I had Sky with the internet through a BT line, I struggled to get 0.2 mb. Countless calls to both Sky and BT to sort it as I was paying for 10mb. Nothing became of it as I was fobbed off with the "it's upto 10mb" crap so I rang to cancel back in 2008 (similar time to when I was made unemployed). They suddenly offered to drop my bill to £3 a month for 6 months but still wouldn't resolve the internet or I dare say I'd be with them to this day.

Fcuked them off and called Virgin Media who had luckily already laid cables in my street (and one of those green boxes they fiddle with is directly outside my front garden). Only had internet through them to start but was getting a genuine 10mb connection for less than BT were charging me and using an old freeview box.

When finances picked up I gradually increased the package. But Virgin are like the rest (only the most reliable of a bad bunch in this area) and gradually increased the bills twice yearly. I got sick of it and rang up back in November I think it was to reduce the bill. Anywho it didn't reduce but I got more for my money as I can handle it if I got a good deal permanently as opposed to 6-12 months.

Currently paying £83.65 p/m for,

TV XL package plus HD channels and all music/movies/sports channels
TiVo 1tb box downstairs and V+HD box upstairs multiroom
Genuine 30mb fibre optic broadband with new super router or whatever
Evening/weekends phone line with 0845 numbers included

Next time they increase my bill I'll be aiming for the rest of the HD channels included

Ironically, the last 3 days our box has been losing channels. ITV and Channel 4 plus others. The signal report seems fine. I had put it down to atmospherics the last two days but today has been fine weather-wise.
Had this box for at least 2 years, guessing it's on it's way out.
A hard reset (turning off and on again) didn't work the first time, second time it seemed to work but the next time we tried to watch something we'd recorded it had failed to no signal and indeed the channel wasn't showing again.

going to get my mother-in law to do the same - actually she will probably pass me the phone and then I'll give them a sob story on cancelling the lot.

Box has been getting very unresponsive the last 6 months, the UI slow to pick up inputs then does them all at once.
When I have an hour to waste I'll phone Sky up...

Sky are smart and they couldn’t offer meanything at all. 2 years ago I had been offered everything for 1 whole year forhalf price which worked out to be£30 odd pounds. Once my year had finished theydid not offer me nothing at all not even a PAUG deal which they offer toeveryone (in other words I been told to f*** off basically) I have a contactwith someone who works for them and told me that because I had taken this dealout for the next 2 years they will not offer me anything again like this againit’s not worth their while. They send out special letter's and posters topeople home address who they feel is a golden customer (which the computerpicks out) them who pay for movies on demand (that’s how you become a goldcustomer over time) so basically you have to pay a few time for a few thingsfor you to get a regular updates and discounts from Sky but this is notguarantee to happen every year.

Yes is it true they can not add 2 discounts at any 1 time.

More and more people have been complaining about the HD boxes braking down or playing up.
In November2012 I had found a few internet links which you can watch more a lesseverything over the net for free which is not against the law as long as youpay for TV licence

I am having constant problems with my Sky HD box since the recent EPG upgrades, I am having issues with the audio description enabling itself despite being disabled (a real problem at the moment if you look at the Sky forums).

Another odd quirk I am getting is recordings will either never even start, clash when there may only be one recording taking place or be cut short meaning the end of the recording is missing.

I think in my case it's a combination of the new EPG software and a probable fault with the Sky HD box, if this one is replaced it will be my 4th or 5th box in a little under 4 years so I am getting cheesed off and I am glad I took out Sky Protect.

Ideally when this box is replaced I'd like the 2TB version instead of replacing it with another 1TB version, plus I would like some discount from the robbing sods as on average I pay them around £110 per month for the full HD package, Multiroom, Talk and Broadband, and of course £10 per month for Sky Protect.

Anyone got any good tactics to suggest (I can't really threaten to go to Virgin as they stopped laying down the cable in my town before they got to my area and BT vision is quite frankly pants), so should I go in being nice or just be 'unreasonable' and threaten to either cut back my TV package to the very basics and/or just threaten to leave all together and hope they don't call by bluff?

If they call your bluff just phone back and say you've changed your mind.
My box developed a 'quirk' after the new EPG arrived when every time I switched it on after it being off for a few hours the sound wouldn't work. Switching it back to standby and back on again fixed it. Doesn't happen now though.
I did a planner rebuild on mine (services menu, '0' '0' '1' 'select' quickly) and now the channels work correctly again!?

Thanks I have done planner rebuilds, forced new software downloads etc about the only thing I haven't done is a full reset which I don't want to do as I would lose all my recordings plus my planned recordings as well.

I also seem to have another quirk as well as when switching channels whether it be from a HD to non HD, HD to HD, non HD to non HD that I know get a lovely blue screen and nothing else unless I go forward or back a channel and then go back to the channel I originally selected and it then works. There is a reported problem on the Sky forums about this and they suggest altering the screen resolution from automatic to 1080i, it worked at first but earlier tonight it started playing up again.

This EPG upgrade has more bugs than a tramps vest, my box was working fine before it and now after it's only fit for the bin - I don't think my recording issue is related to it I think that's just the box failing.

Does a full reset definatly wipe all recordings ? I done someting on mine with instruction from the helpline and it kept all mine . Had to put it on standby and hold in the power button on box while turning it on via the remote etc etc . Cant remember the rest , but thought it was a full reset .

Sky protect only give you back refurb boxes, that's why you're getting through them

I think they may have asked you to do a forced software download, to do this you turn the box off and then start it back up whilst holding down the backup button on top of the HD box.

This will then download the latest software, it then installs it and then restarts the box (takes about 10 mins).

I suspected as much that is why I am going to speak to Sky customer services and see what they offer, I will ring them shortly and hopefully post up a positive outcome later.

After the morning of fun I have had with Sky I now know why they have a reputation for poor customer service.

I have had to explain the faults to Sky Customer Services, Sky Technical and Sky Protect. It would appear that none of them are really interested in sorting out my problem, they all ask that I carry out planner rebuilds, forced software downloads, etc etc.

Once I have explained that I have tried all of that myself they seemed to quite surprised, have none of them ever tried 'Googling' a problem and seeing if there is a way of resolving it yourself first?

One of three things are going to happen now with Sky:

1. I am going to lose my patience and ask them which end of the dish would they like to have inserted into them.

2. I cancel all but the most basic services or even switch off to Freesat which will cost me £25 for a new viewing card.

3. I finally get through to someone with the intelligence and ability to sort out my problem to my satisfaction without reading out a standard script.

If I had any real alternative to Sky then I would leave them in a heartbeat.

I finally managed to get through to someone who was able to help at Sky, so I am now receiving a brand new Sky HD 2TB box (at a very good price) along with half price line rental and broadband for 12 months.

It's just a pity that I had to go around the houses in order to get something sorted, it was worth the effort but they don't half give you the runaround in order to achieve something.

nice one - wiith the problems you've experienced with the old box I'm not sure whether you find the discount any consolation.
Personally I would had it sorted ages ago. If you knew the box was playing up and had tried what was suggested by Sky technical, i would have demanded that they replace the box or send an engineer out to diagnose, test with another box as they keep plenty in the van. I would've asked sky to send out an engineer to remove everything as theres nothing worth keeping if your are not recieving the service for which you pay for.

Nevertheless all sorted shortly.

I had a problem with my HD box a year or two ago. I was informed my box was compatible for the free anytime+ service. Months past I still couldnt get the service activated so sky came and replaced the box for free with one of the new ones not the 2TB boxes once they noticed I had made several phones and promised it.

It's all relative though, have you ever tried BT's customer service, or even worse Talk Talk

The problems have only happened since the EPG 'upgrade', I have no doubt that most of the issues are related to software but the recording problems point towards a failing hard drive in my HD box.

Never mind sorted now, at least I got a heavily subsidised HD box plus a years discount on Sky Call & Broadband out of them.

To be fair I have always found Sky Talk/Broadband really good and have never found a reason to complain about them, unlike BT who quite frankly are pants - you can see why despite having a monopoly on the home call and broadband market they just seem to be or have thrown it away.

I can confirm that BT are absolutely pants, I wouldn't go back to them if they were the only supplier.

Rang Rupert Murdoch (I mean Sky) last night for the mother in-law. Asked for the downgrades team who were unable to offer any discount so asked to be put through to cancellations team.

I explained that I would like to reduce the cost but because my mother in-law is on the basic tv package at £21, line rental £14.50 and free BB.

Sky said they cannot offer any discount because the package is one of lowest you can get and gets free BB through sky. Still adament I said I want to cancel all, so she started processing the cancellation.

I think Sky would still offer a discount even after starting the cancellation process but I my mother in-law didnt want the hassle if the cancellation went through i.e. cant afford to be without phone line etc.

So I blagged my way out of the cancellation so nothing has changed.

Fuming now so going to try again, think it depends who you get through to as well.

yeah they told me that they will give me a fiver off a month but I have to sign another contract for 12 months apparently. Woohoo...

Broadband speeds are going down and down (6 meg on unlimited!!?!?) due to their fcukups with overloading everything with too many customers at the exchanges.

They are not fulfilling contract as far as I'm concerned but there doesn't seem to be much choice round here for anything else. Like others have said, there is noooo way I would go back to BT.

Yeah I'll be doing that shortly. They are 'monitoring' my line speeds for two weeks, they'll still lie and tell me it's all fine though I reckon!

I just got my Fibre Optic this week and its sitting at 22mbps , but has dropped to 14 a few times. For 10 days they monitor the line , but as soon as thats over if it goes anywhere lower than 15 they are getting a call.
