That's because it is. One drop is equivalent to something like 30 spoons of sugar. Its used in the food industry in very, very small amounts and the biggest risk is to the people who work with it (involuntary ingestion).

The potential health risk of a diet drink containing aspartame is considerably outweighed by the potential health risk of all the sugar in a "full fat" version. Now what?

You have to die of something. Most people can tolerate small amounts of aspartame with no side effects whatsoever. Non story except for those who know they react adversely.

These health risk claims have been examined and debunked by numerous scientific research projects, and are also generally dismissed by governments and major health and food safety organizations.

Right, but how many drinks or other food products (I use the term loosely) on the market which have the choice of diet and non-diet versions would you want to consume at all? I can't think of many myself.
