I had a friend who bought who has owed countless Ferarris but always fancied an Aston, he found a car club or forum where he started to ask a lot of questions about how do i do this, or change this part - as any DIY-er new to a marque would.
He was politely told that if you own an Aston, you don't do anything to it yourself!!!!
He didn't keep it long and has gone back to what he knows best.
I'd be spending my hard earned on this bad boy right here and spend the other £20K on ****** and coke....

You'll struggle to get a GTR at 30k. At that money your buying yourself problems imho.
I looked at a few from 09 right upto 12 & purchased a 62 MY12 ex demo with 1900 miles for just shy of 62k
Ride is a bit harsh compared to the E92 M3 i had, but its one capable car. Dealer told me that there is talk of some support from Nissan coming soon so that they can shift a load of unregistered vehicles.

Electrical gremlims aside and ignoring the paddling pool in the boot from the leaking roof, it suffers from the typical Mercedes squishy brake pedal syndrome, which ruins it as a driver's car for me, but it does sound awesome and it handles and goes well....even if the traction is laughably useless in anything but the dry.
I thought my Monaro had comical traction until I drove this....now there's a thought...how about a TWR tuned VXR8 (supercharged, naturally )?

Coincidentaly we've got one in on our workshops at the moment with various of "issues". (fuel pump pressure sensor, random dash warning and too many DTCs top fit on a sheet of A4 paper etc).

Don't forget how bad mercs are for rust. There unbelievable. I was offered a job at a top Newcastle body show who specialised in bently and merc. There bread and butter was warrenty on mercs for rust. Every merc av ever worked on has had car cancer to some degree. Even the stone chips spread like wild fire. The galv they use is way behind the times.
Their vans are similar too.

There unreal mate. I left the motor trade just over a year ago so the last plate merc I worked on was probably a 10 plate an that had rust on it then! Discrace really because they no how to build cars and well but have seemed to overlook the anti-corrosion.

The 2007 model SL55 has very few rust issues part of the reason being that a lot of it is aluminium!!!
The roof seals issue was fixed at the end of 2005 so a 2007 should not have water in the boot or a failed roof motor like the earlier year cars 2002 -2005.
The brakes use the sensotronic system which is not the best as it has more pedal travel than is normally desirable, but I don't think they're spongy as such, they just take some getting used to.
There were some electrical gremlins in the earlier cars too, but again ironed out in the later ones. There were also two recalls on the sensotronic brakes, but I am unsure as to which years they pertained to.

Cheers! Glad I waved st the right person!
F1 fan; made by the same manufacturer maybe? But thanks for letting us all know what an expert you are ;-) And they also did an AMG CLK, hardly a cooking model. The 430 and 500 were also rapid V8s too.

Sorry but comparing an SL and a Mercedes van is stupid. Stick to your beloved BMWs - at least you seem to actually know something about them!

Yes I know they have had a lot of issues, but my point is not all models or years.
The 2007 SL55 mentioned here will be fine and then someone starts banging on about it being bad because of a 2002 CLK and some vans
Ooooo I wouldn't buy a Subaru BRZ, my MY94 Impreza GL had rusty rear arches

Come on F1, admit that even top end sub three year old Mercs have also been prone to the dreaded wheelarch rust...
Aluminium is actually worse than pure steel if you don't isolate it properly. You end up with the more reactive alu encouraging corrosion in the steel.
Just look at any new Defender.
And while the SL55 does appear to be fairly safe from corrosion, it looks like they still need buying carefully...

In fairness...the SL55 AMG (2007) I worked on had no rust, and I spent a fair few hours underneath it working on the thing. Its not a weekend car nor garaged either.
Brake feedback is similar the old Bentleys and Rolls Royces from the 70's/80's/90's...I never liked the brakes on any of them either. I'm fussy when it comes to stuff like this on these types of cars; It spoils it. Like the rest of the niggles, shakes and rattles.
Oh forgot to add the keycard stopped working...three times in so many days, I darn't lock it now.

If the battery is gently discharging this can cause the keycard communication issues. Fully charge the battery and it should be OK again, on early cars you sometimes had to go through a procedure to re-marry the keycard and car, but I doubt that'll be the issue here as I think the keyfob acts as the key and card on the 2007 model. Maybe something else but worth a try anyway!
