Tom, where about's in the country are you? Knowing that will allow people to recommend places close to you, which you can visit, have a chat with them and get a feel for the place. That's just as important as cost.

Stick it in your profile mate.
User CP, up there ^^^, Edit Your Details, Location. Put it in, scroll to the bottom and save. Saves you putting it on every thread.

Cheers for the advice redditch now in my profile.
Can anybody else recommend any localish engine builders I'm not really sure where to ask. We've got a local "specialist" near by but they made a few school boy errors on my old wrx so I'm not overly keen on using them again. I don't think I'm too far from api or thwaites developments if anybody coułd comment would be much apriciated.

Prodrive are nearby and seem to know a thing or two. Think they may be costly though. 
RCM and Zen are the only ones I can think of, it's not my neck of the woods though.
