Scottish Independence
A yes vote would be a good thing as if you stay with us, we would have to pour more money in Scotland! Jeez, you do seem to have trouble understanding stuff.
If you a representative of Scottish people, then by all means, vote yes and go sink
If you a representative of Scottish people, then by all means, vote yes and go sink
Yea and you seam to struggle to understand you will be in a extremely worse situation with 1.2 trillion hanging over your heads with between 90 to 185 billion yearly deficit hanging over your heads LOL
thats not RUK sinking thats RUK drowning

if your much bigger economy was that good you would not be in this mess would you

best of luck to you with that
Sure, you have oil, but it won't last and there is not much else in Scotland to replace it. Actually, now I think of it, a Yes vote is good, 'cos once it does run out, we will have to support you lot even more! Good God, the whole of Scotland will be like "Benefit Street"

LOL yea we only have oil

alex salmond describes the north sea oil tax revenue as a bonus and not the center piece of Scotland's wealth

Instead of focusing on issues outside of iScotland, why don't you concentrate on what will matter for iScotland? Like what will happen to the savings and mortgages of people in iScotland when it will have to float a new currency on the international market, or how will it pay for all the free public services that will come after independence, or what will happen to iScotland's land, air and sea armed forces, or what the cost of independence will be for the people of iScotland, or how iScotland will deal with businesses moving out of iScotland or what it will do to keep them, or what it intends to do with regards to EU membership etc, etc, you know matters that concerin iScotland directly!!
If Scotland is so important to England why are we giving Scotland a chance at independence?
My guess is we can manage just fine with out them but would like to be stronger together.
The question is not will England be ok but can Scotland manage with out us. I suspect that there is a lot of power mad selfish people running the yes campaign that have their own interests at heart.

I've not really read any of this thread but I think we should cut a big long line along Hadrian's wall after they all vote for independence and watch them sink into the North Sea clutching their Braveheart DVDs.
There's been nothing but reports of illegal immigrants storming the port at Calais, trying to board vehicles/ferries heading to the UK. So once iScotland join the EU and has to sign away it's borders to the Schengen agreement, all of those illegals who can currently only get as close as France, will instead head for Scotland border as that will be even closer to their El Dorado of rUK.
Anyone expecting a new Hadrian's Wall to go up in order to stop the illegal immigrants sneaking in to rUK?
Didn't take me long to find out.
Jon, you're still quoting as fact that Scotland wont be using the pound if independent. when the opposite is most likely true.
Chris, the question you should be asking is why is Westminster and the Better Together campaign doing everything they possibly can to prevent Scotland becoming independent? What's the big deal if Scotland is a net drain on the UK as a whole (as the no campaign are at lengths to point out).
You do realise, incidentally, that the City of London subsidises the whole of England, and should something happen to it the rest of "your" country could not survive?
The UK has been bankrupt for years, surviving on debt it can probably never repay. The clusterf*ck of successive UK govenments has made sure of that. Scotland has 59 seats in the House of Commons out of a total of 650 and has had little or no ability to influence much of anything.
Yes, we have our own Parliament, but its powers are severly restricted. Is it any wonder that so many Scottish people want to be able to shape their own future?
But, 10% of EU wave energy potential, 25% of Europe's wind energy potential. First of all, that's potential, they are not realised. Someone has to pay to exploit them. We all know how expensive wind farms are, and wave energy is in it's infancy, it's years away at any sort of efficiency, and it sure won't be cheap.
If you don't get a currency union yada yada yada, Scotland is not going to be a cheap place to live or vist. Tourism many not be quite the earner it is now. Travellers go where it's cheap. How much of an impact will it be? I don't know, but there probably will be some.
Farming. You have no guarantee of EU membership, so forget your subsidies. Also, not being a member of the EU, you won't have as favourable export terms, so everything from farming to whisky, whatever, is going to be harder to export. I know that the booze soaked populace north of the border may relish more whisky in the home market, though.
You haven't yet touched on the NHS. With the worst health record of the home nations, how exactly are you going to pay for the monster that will become? You say it ain't all oil, but oil is the only extra revenue stream you will have other than what you have now, and quite frankly it doesn't cover what you will lose by leaving the union.
I can't see SNP increasing taxation in iScotland, they certainly can't decrease it with all the free everything they keep promising. Exactly how is iScotland going to pay for its new found independence?

And why are they so spooked?

OK, let's have a look at some of those. Some of them are real assets, of course. Scotland is not Afghanistan....

Seriously though, I think all of that has been lost in all the bluster surrounding the campaign and nobody has all the information to make a proper and informed decision.
I think when people in Scotland realise they may have to put their hand in their pockets to pay for independence, they may think twice to voting Yes. They are Scots after all!

does this include you as well as this is your words
I'm not eligible to vote, so the decision is not mine to make. Plus, judging by your posts, you have all the information you want to see to make your decision, so good luck with that.

What, despite the fact that the 3 main parties have said no to a currency union, that it's still most likely true that there will be a currency union. Why then if it is likely to be true are the markets spooked?

This made me laugh......
Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman has written an article on Scottish independence for the New York Times in which he warns that the "risks of going it alone are huge". He also claims: "You may think that Scotland can become another Canada, but it's all too likely that it would end up becoming Spain without the sunshine."

Right and you don't see the comical irony that you choose to quote from the same media that are suposidly heavily influenced by Westminster to try and support your arguement.

I have shared with you my opinions on all that you've raised. Like I said, you already have the information that you are willing to accept and you have already made your decision based on this, that is clear. If you won't read or comprehend them, I can't help you.
Really there isn't enough face palm emoticons to truely reflect my face palm of you. Actually no, you are completely right, I see the error of my ways and I am completely wrong. Please I hope you can find it in your brave heart to find some forgiveness for my clearly wrong views of Scottish Independence. iScotland will be a glorious country with free public services for every iScot all paid for by the Scotland's unlimited black gold flowing from its shores. And the independence will be paid for by the bank of england and rUK taxpayers as a leaving gift, in the hope that one day you will see us worthy enough for rUK to join your prosperous iScotland so that one day we might be grateful just to share a tiny proportion of your wealth. We in rUK are bricking our pants that we will become a third world country after Scotland leaves and, we the English, will be stuck with Government that makes Robert Mugabe and Kim Jong-un look like William Wallace. We beg....., No, I beg for your mercy and forgiveness for all our wrongs that was carried out in Scotland's history all in the name of England.
Now will you just leave me alone. Thanks.

Any success that Scotland has or has potential to have is because it is part of England and the rest of the uk. I am very surprised to keep reading time and time again how one of the most powerful countries in the world (England) that punches well above its weight is being down trodden so much.
If all the Scottish lads think that the uk/England is a failure then clearly they have no ability to measure success and to think that Scotland is some how going to give England a lesson in how to run a country is laughable. (Its like a young lad telling a experienced driver whats what, sure they know in theory but in the real world its very different).
To add to some comments about the Scottish being liked, well they are seen as the poorer cousin of England so more of a sympathy thing.
As for England Scotland relationships, the Scottish have always (well in currant years) been welcomed in England but I cant say the same for Scotland being as welcoming to the English (except when they wont are tourism)
