Begs a question though... if Scotland is so much better off than rUK per capita then why are there 800k Scots living here and only 400k from rUK living in Scotland?

Scotland is not the 8th richest country in the world! GDP per capita is not an indicator of wealth, it is an indicator of, GDP per capita, funnily enough. Talk about putting a spin on it.......
Of course, without Sterling or EU membership, those figures are pretty meaningless (or triple A credit rating).

Some of the figures were quite interesting in that, but the end just became an exercise in spin and emotion.
The life expectancy, come on, Scottish ill health is nothing to do with money going south or being part of the UK!
And all that money "going south" and the richest households being south of the Bristol Channel/Wash line. I would imagine that the majority of wealthy people running all that success in up Scotland live down there! I'm not suggesting that they are not Scottish, they may well be, but patently they are choosing to live in a more climate, affluent area. I can't imagine that would change if they got independence.
Or, it could be that it is a tiny minority of people who live in Scotland generate all that wealth, but as a whole, the general population does not reap the benefit. Again, that is unlikely to change as a result of independence.

It mostly comes back to the oil, how much wealth will be extracted from it in the coming decades.
Apart from that, how much of Scotland's GDP depends on it being part of the union? How much is at risk due to unopposed socialist ideas, creditworthiness, currency unknowns and the sheer cost of splitting everything up?
Any advantage from the oil is not offset by the disadvantages or risks IMHO.

Crowd: Alex Salmon is a fat bastid!
Alex Salmond: Yes, I've heard. Eats deep fried mars bars by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with a bowl of porridge, and a side order of haggis.
[Crowd laughs]
Alex Salmond: I *am* Alex Salmond! And I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of tyranny. You've come to vote as free men... and free men you are. What will you do with that vote? Will you vote 'YES'?
Crowd: Vote 'Yes'? For what? We will vote 'No'. And we will live united with the Pound.
Alex Salmond: Aye, Vote 'Yes' and Scotland may lose everything. Vote 'No', and you'll still be able to spend the Pound and share our oil, at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell the English that they may take our Pound, but they'll never take... OUR OIL!
Alex Salmond: Alba gu bràth!

How can the Scot's vote yes if the SNP won't tell voters the full facts!! Basically they want you to vote Yes on the assertion that they WILL get the Pound despite what the Chancellor says. Of all the interviews I've seen with the SNP ministers, none of them, not one have indicated what would happen if the Chancellor stuck to his decision. They keep telling telling the UK how much it's going to cost the English, but what the hell would 'plan b' involve and cost economically for for Scotland? Why won't they discuss it and let the voters know to help the Scot's make an informed decision? As it stands the SNP want the Scot's to blindly vote yes without knowing both sides of argument and then thrash out the details later!! How frustrating!

Take Osborne's speech last week, on the face of it all very convincng, but aftewards I lstened to some economists debating the issue and there are arguments for both sides..... the trouble is both sides will only present the facts that back up their view!
At the end of the day the whole thing hasn't been thought through properly by either side as yet and if the vote is Yes (which I doubt it will be) there is going to be a lot of discussion and research that needs to be doine before it can happen on both side of Hadrian's Wall!
To be fair to Osborne I doiubt he will take any of it too seriously until it happens, why would you?

You'd think they'd tell the Scot's how advantageous it would be for Scotland for a currency union rather than bleat on about how bad it would be for the English in transaction costs (£500m for England, anyone's guess for Scotland), increased debt, loss of revenue, etc. Agree about politicians, more slippery than summer tyres on ice.

Wonder how many companies in England will move North of the border?
Doesn't matter, I'm sure it'll be "alright on the night" for the Scots!
