What's the "forefront of engineering technology" if you don't mind me asking? Sounds pretty cool

Cheers
John.

I genuinely cannot say ...... but, believe me, I work with the finest Engineering and Scientific minds in the world (I'm not one of them, but I ain't an idiot who thinks he needs to do something so pathetic as to remove the Crank Sensor - that's just the pits of stupidity )

As for the Crank Sensor Disconnect ..... this is for idiots who cannot think with an Engineering mind - in the morning the engine oil is in the very same state as after an Oil Change - do you do the 'crap for brains' disconnect then? Nah, you don't! So why after an Oil Change?

What's worse is that you are doing much more damage churning your Engine over at Starter Speed than you ever do firing up to idle speed after an oil change ....... just imagine those bearings churning over so slowly that the pressure takes at least 50 times longer to build to a safe value?

It's a disgrace that this Myth persists - I understand that not everyone is working at the forefront of Engineering Technology as I do ......... but, come on, don't be so gullible!!

As for Magnetic Sump Plugs ...... any particle small enough to get past the filter isn't going to worry me - or the engine for that matter.

Carry on disconnecting the Crank Sensor if you wish - but do not tell others to be risking their engine.
I'm inclined to agree with most of the above. Pre-filling the filter makes sense, as it alleviates any air pocket where the oil wouldn't be present, but disconnecting plugs so the engine won't fire seems a lot of unnecessary nonsense to me!

I've said it before on this subject that in New Zealand, every third car is a Subaru of some sort, there are literally thousands of them and so if there genuinely was a problem with engine failures after oil changes, the Kiwi's would be the first to vote with their wallets!

I'm not really mechanically minded, I'm an electrical engineer, but I tend to agree with pslewis, even though I've read this "disconnect the crank sensor" advice a couple of times on here and was beginning to think there may be a design issue if it had to be done at an oil change. I can't see the difference between leaving your car to stand for a week and starting her straight up and doing that after an oil change?

But again, I'm certainly no expert.

Common sense tells you that a crank sensor disconnect is not needed .... have you ever heard of such a thing on any other Marque?

I'll tell you something for nothing, Subaru Main Dealers do not disconnect the sensor - nor do they pre-fill the filter .......... do you honestly think that Subaru would allow them to do that if there was any fear whatsoever that any damage may result? With the costly warranty work needed?

I still pre-fill my filters ..... I'm sure I'm being **** and it's not really needed - but, and this is the crux, pre-filling will do no damage.

Unlike a sensor disconnect - that CAN do damage ...... so, isn't worth doing at all - simply not worth the risk of churning the engine over and over and over with low Oil Pressure!!!!

My wife's Citroen has the oil filter mounted at 90 degrees and so it is impossible to pre-fill. Neither is there any requirement to disconnect anything electronic to stop the engine from firing.

110000 miles and many, many trouble free oil changes!

My Scooby stands testament to the wisdom of a sensible approach .... 100,000+ miles and running as sweet as a nut when I sold her.

The crank sensor was connected in the Subaru factory and was never touched .... just imagine what happens with a connector not designed to be made and re-made, when it's made and re-made?? That's right, it becomes faulty!!

So, worn bearings PLUS a faulty connector - for being silly? NOT worth it my friends!!
