Dear Subaru UK ....

We all know full well that the British Touring Car Champion Civic can make an Impreza look very slow indeed ..... when they are both on full chat and moving - 0-60 times are for the teenagers and girlies. REAL power is for the REAL men on REAL roads ...... and that's where the Impreza falls ever so slightly short of the Honda Diesel with that massive Torque.
Besides, we are supposed to be talking about the price of a WRX STi and if it represents value or not at £27,000 or, worse, at £31,000!! Or, heaven forbid, £33,000!!!

Even without the power advantage of the Honda, or the price advantage, the look advantage is all too obvious ...... and you know it's true.

Pete,
You're worse than a 100 a dayer that has just given up.
I don't know what's worse..... somebody telling us that they just beat a M3 on a dual carriageway, or you banging on about your Honda on a Subaru related forum.
Your comedic value is legendary. You should join the crew at Billy Smarts Big Top!
I'd would love for you to be on Big Brother..... it would be TV gold!

All joking aside, for the new kiddies here .... it is now well documented that Diesels these days have the power and driving thrills of yesteryears performance cars (like the Impreza in its heyday of 1995-2001).
The sad fact is that the world has moved on since those heady days way back in the late 90's early 00's ....... I know, I was there, living the dream.
To buy an Impreza now, even with £6,000 OFF, is financial suicide ..... no-one wants them used, no-one wants them new.
I don't laugh too loud when I overtake an Impreza in my Honda diesel .... after all, the chav is still enjoying what was yesterdays plaything for me .... when that 350Nm of torque is released there is nothing that can live with the Civic.
Forget 0-60 times, they are meaningless ...... it's the flight on the real roads which makes the Honda the overall winner - by some margin, I have to say.
Don't get me wrong .... I loved my Impreza, for it's time - 15 years ago - it was the very best. Now - the name Impreza doesn't give the goosebumps it used to.
No, now it's the Honda Civic Type S GT 2.2CDTi which gets the pulse racing ...... and, deep down, you all know it.

Peak Torque figures mean nothing if they only last 200rpm. My stepmother happens to own a Type S and it is night and day compared to my P1!
Even our old STI Blob would wipe it's **** with the Civic.

You will all soon come around to the knowledge of where we are in the world ..... the performance diesel is the future, the petrol performance car is the past.
Civic versus Impreza:-
55mpg versus 20mpg
350Nm versus 292Nm
£18,000 versus £27,000+
£110 versus £475 Road Tax
75% versus 20% Retained Value
Looks versus Ugly
Equipment versus Poverty Spec.
Really, honestly, truly, there is only one game in town .... and £6,000 OFF is not going to change that.

Can't argue with the figures and on paper the Civic wins, however I don't think the Civic is good looking, especially the 2012 version as its so unbalanced in its design....... Face down *** up springs to mind As for those stupid bulbous rear lights Granted, before you have a pop, the new Impreza isn't any better in the looks department either!
For driving pleasure the Impreza wins. Diesels, although good and are quick nowadays, are just plain boring They just don't give you, and to quote James May, that 'fizz' in the trouser department like a turbo'd petrol car does.

Aside from the obvious trolling and many stupid points PS has made I just wanted to join in and point out as much as you like diesels they will be a thing of the past in the medium term of car development. Legislation and emission controls are becoming tighter and tighter making diesel engines more and more expensive and it will reach a point soon where they will no longer be viable. Alternative fuelled vehicles, with or without a petrol engine are the future, coupled with small turbo petrol engines.

I must admit to diesels being at their end time ....... but, so are petrols ....... we only need one leap in Battery Technology to make the Electric Car the future.
Quite how the Government will tax the elctric is yet to be sorted out .... I'm guessing they will tax the Batteries.

I'm guessing that people look at yours because it is chavved up in some way? Maybe stickered up? with a loud exhaust? Dump Valve maybe? Blacked out windows you say? Gold Wheels (MariGolds)?
You do know what they are saying and thinking ....... don't you??
Clue:- it is NOT, "Look at that beautiful Impreza"!!!!!
