Resorting to criminal offences makes it even easier for the neighbours, mind you I kicked off with a woman round the back of garden over a washing line lol. Tried saying I tied it on to HER tree, when it's the borderline of the garden and it's not even her house it's rented via council although mine is mortgaged........silly homegrowns

My local council informed me I was breaking the law by parking my own works van on my own driveway and at one stage threatened action

 

How did they figure that ?

 

I lived in a new build a while back and ANY sign written van was a big no no!

 

If a big commercial van parked outside my house every night, which isn't possible by the way, I'd buy my own large van, sign write something mildly offensive on it, park it outside the van owners house and use it as a shed/compost bin.

 

Im a self employed plumber,technically its illegal to run the business from home as I employ someone who comes here to work.apparantly. Theyre after business rates aint they
In fact they informed me that i needed to apply for a change of use to my home...

I found the perfect solution...... Ok. Yu look out your window and see your scooby. You normally park your van to your right outside the angry neighbour.... So, park it outside the left hand neighbour simples

 

If you really are parking in a disabled bay, then you deserve all the hassle they give you.

If not, as someone said, park the van in front of your own house and your car in front of theirs. The would be less selfish when you think about it.

There's a chap who lives opposite and a few doors up from my folks house. He parks his commercial vehicle directly opposite my folks house most of the time, making it difficult to back cars off without doing a 3 point turn.
My dad gets really annoyed that the guy doesnt just simply put the van on his own drive, as it appears he has the room to do so. It almost suggests he wants to keep the frontage of his own property uncluttered and so therefore park his ugly old van further down the road.
Mum phoned the owning company to ask if they could tell "their driver" to consider parking it away from opposite their drive and then said "wouldn't it be better for him to leave it in the works compound (a couple of miles away)"..
It stopped for a bit but for the past few weeks it's been back again

If it were me then i'd have a friendly chat with the driver and if that didn't resolve then my folks and my my brother should perhaps leave the three of their vehicles either side and opposite his property for a few weeks


And yes I too have heard of some rules around banning of commercial vehicles on some new estates too, whether they are on drives or not, as most are indeed an eyesore outside the average property.

Lol, we have parking wars on our street too, neighbours directly opposite have a 2 car drive but insist on parking outside their house to stop anyone else parking there, there is space for 3 cars but they park in such a manner so as to stop a third parking there.

I have a 2 car drive and double garage, i once had a caravan on the drive for a week and another neighbour in a rented house left a sh1ty note on my mrs car telling us how we are so selfish and should put a car in the garage (scoob was in there) and because my mrs parked outside her house she had to park on her drive and it was our fault she hit her own gate post and damaged her car.

Needless to say that i put the note back on her car, along with the words if you have a problem it's polite to talk to people not leave sh1ty letters, and parked my isuzu outside there house for a week, until she musterd the gaul to come and apologise and ask nicely.

OP, adjust your cctv to look at where your van is and park the scoob there.

Then order lots of takeaways, double glazing ect for next door, and as above tell the dole he is working.

Sounds like they've had trouble with people blocking the drive to me.

 

How would you lot have responded if the boot was on the other foot? If somebody else was regularly parking a dirty great van outside Mickey and Lisa's house but wouldn't be reasonable about it? I know that there is no law which says you have a right to parking space outside your house on a public road, but it seems to me to be a simple matter of common decency not to do things which are obviously going to cause annoyance to your neighbours. What gets me is that Mickey isn't being reasonable about this at all. Every suggestion which might help alleviate the situation has been vetoed on the selfish grounds that it doesn't suit Mickey to do so.

Keep the van at work? Nononono! It's a perk of the job to have the van!

We park one of our cars at the front of the house and occasionally due to other people's visitors we have to park slightly in front of our neighbour's house. It bothers me to do so, because I think it's inconsiderate to inconvenience one's neighbours. I move our car as soon as it's possible to do so. You're an inconsiderate neighbour, Mickey and you're hiding behind the letter of the law by insisting you're doing nothing wrong by parking there.

 

1. Yes it is a perk so to speak, the only one, and why should he give that up just because someone doesn't like a van being parked perfectly legally in the street? When not working in all that well paid a job, shoot us if we feel like it is handy if you like, having the van, saving just a little in the way of fuel, and potentially extra insurance costs.

2. Why the problem with CCTV outside our house. I'm not sure about you or others on this board, but when you have been the victim of vehicle crime and had your house broken in to, I don't think it's all that unreasonable to want to do as much as reasonably possible to try and protect it a bit more. It's not a guarantee of course, but selfish or not, I care about my home and car, more than two work shy neighbours. Perhaps if they grafted hard and had been at the receiving end of other people feeling like it's their right to take some of what they worked hard for, they might understand a bit more.

Also, what I think people need to keep in mind, is when this has been discussed, although one minute he moans about the van, he has clearly said he wants nothing there in case anyone is to visit, or an ambulance comes. He isn't being reasonable either. Oh, and to reiterate, the main problem for me, is the fact that they have lied when complaining about this twice, and at no point has anyone come to see us to see if there could be any compromise made, or to at least allow us to explain how things stand. If it is his daughter that has complained, I honestly don't understand why she couldn't have at least tried to discuss this???

Edit to add, if he was parking up and thus preventing the neighbours from parking outside their house, I would fully appreciate where they were coming from, even though nobody on a public street can dictate where they or others park. If people with garages and off road parking on the opposite side of the road parked there, it would free up space, but we can't make them.

 

There's obviously no sense in discussing it with you, because you're not prepared to put yourselves in the other person's shoes. I've been a victim of vehicle crime TWICE over the scoob. TWO thefts, one not recovered. One by a Hanoi-style burglary, if you know what that is. I don't use that experience to **** off my neighbours. You shouldn't park that eyesore outside somebody else's house.

 

That really says it all! Clearly they have far too much time on their hands and far too little life!

If they had a life they wouldn't be looking at yours. Have you considered a magnetic finger sign for their side of the van?

 

If I might point out, this is in fact Lisa posting here, I thought by the long winded post, that much would be obvious. When I made the remark 'it's Micky' I was referring to the spelling, sorry for not being clear enough.

The experiences we have had are not being used as reasons to **** somebody off, and to be honest, having met you, I would have thought you would have picked up on the fact that we are not bad, trouble making people. It's a case of there being limited options due to the amount of parked cars all on side of our street. He tried to be considerate way back by parking on the grassed area until the council took issue over that. Funnily enough, the last time this was raised, I suggested to the bloke to get in touch with the council to see if they would consider making the area into parking, that never happened. It's not like he/his family is short of time to perhaps send an e-mail or letter or make a phone call.

And to again go back to the the point, he has stated he wants nothing there.

As for putting ourselves in somebody else's shoes, there is plenty we could moan about.

He climbs on our wall to put bread etc. on OUR shed roof, which not only is damaging the roof, but however much ends up all over the garden. Trivial, a bit, but do we complain? No

Mainly his wife, at all hours will send the dog outside, and believe me when I say her voice could make your ears bleed shouting at it. Not to mention it can bark for ages before it'll be let back in the house. Do we moan? No.

They clearly don't believe in picking up dog **** up out of the garden and it can end up stinking, more so when there is some hot weather? Do we moan? No.

When the grand kids do come, not only will they happily bounce ***** off the side of the house (annoying at the time), if they land in it, they'll just leave them, or on the odd occasion, I've seen them jump the wall. I actually do worry they might hurt themselves, but regardless of that, whatever happened to knocking on a door. Especially when going onto a property that is locked from the side gate? Not crime of the century, more annoying, but do we moan? No.

These people one way or another show no respect for us, as much as some would say we are not showing them, by heaven forbid, parking a vehicle outside their house. The reason we don't moan, is such is life. Unless you live on a plot of land all by yourself, there is a good chance things are going to crop up that might annoy, but life is too short to moan about it all. It's the nature of the beast having neighbours. If anything, we let all these things go (regardless if you think they are trivial) because we are reasonable. Shame a little understanding (or even decency to speak to us) can't go the other way.

 

No-one deserves to have somebody else's ginormous clutter blocking their view. You only have Mickey's assertion that they haven't worked for twenty years. They're meant to be old; how old is that? They can't be really old if Mickey's having a go at them for not working. Conversely, if they're in their fifties, they might've lost their income through ill-health or no fault of their own.

I've met Mickey and Lisa about three times in real life, and I like them. Regardless, in this instance I think they're in the wrong.
