Btw if your having it mapped why don't you just go mafless , way better and less hassle !

It makes sense that the mixtures and rates of air will have such a big effect!

No, I've decided after seeing the dramatic improvement achieved by blocking the airflow, that RCM can fiddle with it more when they get her next week!

I've thought about going MAFless! So how does that improve things? And what / how to do it?

I did worry about that, but I couldn't seal it completely with my palm...so maybe a smidge of air was getting through the seal?!

Don't know how big your inlet is but im pretty sure it's not down to just your maf ,,, like you said it could be a combination of everything
You just have it mapped to run on Map sensor not maf
My personal opinion is its smoother and you've not got to dick about with afm
Join in the DIY mapping thread I've started
And ask away there

Nope, the MAF tube and the air inlet tube to the turbo have both been changed.
I used the MAF itself from the 'old' MAF tube, and attached it within the 'new' shorter MAF tube. The distance of the MAF from the turbo has decreased too...
I'm still not allowed to post attachments?!?!

You can go here to see the work done!

Never said I was an expert matey...I said that without pictures we were guessing...I said I killed an engine due to lean running for 80 miles after going up to an 80mm MAF.

There's a great big "links" box under or next to each photo. Click the one labelled "IMG code".

I certainly promise to talk to RMC about binning it, and will do if they're happy to!
I want the thing to breathe as much as possible, so stupid dangly electronic things blocking airways don't do it for me!!

Don't know what your budget is , but tell em you want to go mafless and have spark cut launch control , no doubt it will cost you , I do my own so it's not an issue
Oh and you've got to keep the maf sensor in because it contains the sensor for the inlet air temperature
So you've still got dangly things in you inlet ,,, ooooer
