if its not being used for rallying and will be on the roads then theres no need for any restrictors..
i say build then engine to within an inch of its life and make it totally insane, if you have all thee suspension and body/structural mods matching a WRC car then the handling will be s**t hot so may as well pull out the stops and build a serious engine pumping out 600-800bhp.. imagine meeting an actual WRC subaru someday between stages and racing it with near double the HP
there is a retarded amount of work going into this car, all the patching/body repair, restoration work, fabrication and engine work im doing to my old BMW 325i for a turbo build around a GT3582 is a pain in the a$$ but this build is nuts, id be afraid to drive the thing afterwards just incase someone crashed into it or something..
if it were mine though, bearing in mind it isnt exactly a rally car, its a road car just built to a very similar spec.. id be inclined to paint it black and have no decals, black wheels, tinted rear andd rear side windows, smoke out the taiillights, smoke out the reflectors in the headlights, etc, etc.. basically make it something of a UFO for the streets. maybe film some getaway in stockholm-esque videos too

haha im actually VERY tempted to do something like that (inconspicuous car not the videos lol) with my old 325i once its boosted though cops here are far far less hassle than in england. 90% of cop cars you see here are not traffic branch and as such usually arent all that bothered unless your doing mach 1 or something and even at that the majority of the vehicles they use both marked or uunmarked are fairly slow, plenty of turbo diesels and ofcourse the armoured landrovers which couldnt pull you out of bed so the only ones you would need to really watch is traffic branch if theyre about in their unmarked VXR insignia or if they still have any of the other quick unmarked cars i have seen them using over the years like R36 passat wagon and more recently some skoda wagon of a similar spec to an R36. usually any antics i get up to are a case of "if a tree falls and no ones around" though there has been a couple instances of a hasty exit stage left over the years.
suppose if you want to be super hard to recognise in a subaru just get a WRB one with gold wheels lol

Think you miss understand ,, it was running 450bhp before we started work on it and I still have all the running gear to go back to 450 once finished ,,, its never going to be rallied so there is no restrictions on how much power it can have or parts I can use so I can do as much as budget will allow

Sweet Dom, glad it will be getting used
Where is he based?
I'm just about to start work on a 2door shell, so may need a few bits doing and some advice about chopping the arces. I'm having similar issues to you trying to find a reasonable priced arch kit, although I'm happy to go for composite, as it's a rally car the shell probably won't last long!

No its never being rallied so no restrictions really ,,, its going back together with its current engine (2.1 stroker) and turbo so will be running 450 again with all the bells and whistles like before ,,, then once iv got a bit more cash ill carry on with the wrc engine that can be rated to 1000bhp if I require but I'm not number chasing ,, as far as power goes its going to be 555bhp (match number plate) on the low end and anything above that will be a bonus
My blob has always had the decal so its kind of grown with the car if you know what I mean and that's prob why I building it into a rep rarther than just a track car , wouldn't of thought when I brought it as a standard WRX I was going this far with it but I bet that's the same for a lot of peeps on here lol

He is in the process of building a gc8 2 door and is changing everything on it , the work going into that one is loads compared to mine ,,, ill get some pics for you next time I'm over there
Got to go and have a look at these the other day for inspiration ,, all full wrc spec I was in love and was left on my own to look as I pleased lol

I love the Impreza WRC 97-00. The ultimate expression of the GC8!
Esp. the MY99 one with the gold 15-spokes OZ SuperT's and 22B*-style bonnet louvres. Not so keen on the MY00's weird shaped bonnet louvres -- but form follows function and all that.
* Obviously the WRC car got the louvres first

To be honest I'm 100% newage ,, classics are nice cars but feel old to me ,, but I haven't owned a proper stripped out one yet so there's still time lol

well guys its been quite a while since I last updated this thread ,bet a lot of you thought id given up on it (never!!) lol,, project was on hold for many reasons mostly my own doing lol but some was down to my mate building frays car in the place where mine would of been lol , main problem with mates rates is you can't chose when its done lol
but it looks like the chap that is doing all the fab work is now ready to start again for me so fingers crossed we will get it to paint this time
with mine being his first newage WRC kit in steel he made it is about 95% accurate ,, I don't really do 95% so my mind was made up to replace the rear end again
but this time I went with original pressed WRC panels instead so at least it will be the original steel panels not copys
here we go again !!!! lol

no but I know who you mean as im still trying to catch up with the same chap I expect ,,,,, there was issues between the two chaps doing all the work ages ago and they split up , one carried on and done the rest on frays car and I stayed in touch with him for a bit but my mate didn't have anywhere to do all any work on mine so we couldn't finish it,,was promised by the other chap for a bit that he would finish it once frays was done but then disappeared ,,, but now iv found a garage to rent by my mate so we can try and finish the body ourselves ,, another reason iv brought the panels as my mates a great welder but isn't able to make the panels like the other chap did the first time

Bit of a update on my WRC build ,, bodywork is now 99% finished and is now waiting to go to paint , chassis wise it’s now full WRC body , original steel kit , not a copy , front and rear WRC S5 subframes , WRC sachs suspension , RCM gobstopper hubs and front arms ,, one big bit of the puzzle done

thanks , one thing I wanted to make sure was any of the bare metal was covered again so paint was squeezed into lots of tight spaces lol ,, better to do it now than to try fixing rust problems later on

I used dinitrol ml in all the cavities on my forester 6 years ago and have just repeated the exercise...... No rust yet although its inevitable.
Cracking project!
