TBH, I still find it hard to believe that anyone with an ounce of common, couldn't do this job.

Very easy to say Jeff when your not shy to get dirty with the spanners but if you have no mechanical knowledge at all it's rather worrying to start to pulling things off your engine and know it's all back together right when your finished

Personally my best advice is if you are unsure then leave alone!

This is typically what you need for "proper" mounting

That's the business, above, unless your oil PRESSURE sender is small, like Defi ones, and physically fits where the original oil, pressure SWITCH fits, and you aren't bothered about keeping the o/p warning light.

THEN you just need the larger brass fitting and it's washer..........although mine is in with PTFE tape and doesn't leak, no washer.

If using a sandwich plate are there any issues with cables getting damaged by headers?

Cheers

Dear God..........do it right, don't use a sandwich plate.

Yes, there are issues, of course, there are, that's one reason we DON'T USE SANDWICH PLATES, they are the devil's spawn.

If you are lazy enough to use one, then route the wires well away, and zip-tie them to something cooler.

And don't whine when your gauges read wrong

My car is 8 years old and have been told that threads can get damaged when taking the bungs out the block so am nervous about going down that route.

How so? If they've not been moved, why would they? They go into an oil chamber, so corrosion is unlikely.

I think whoever told you is a lazy fitter, or misinformed?

Biggest risk is damaging the hex socket in the blanking plug, due to using a poor quality tool to remove it.

They can be routed away from the headers with ease mate, just come up through the front subframe and straight against the bulkhead and into one of the bungs into the cabin area, couldn't be easier.
