That's some terrific noise. I heard a sixth of that a couple of years ago when the Vulcan had been repaired at Brize. The Heritage guys were in the ATC Tower to get a few flypasts, and the pilot didnt disappoint. The last pass buzzed the tower, I was stood below and was totally in awe of it.

I don't like planes normally, they take me to horrible places in the main.

4 x 4 take off of tombs ****s your ears up. For the Queen though, for her 50th, so is cool.

When I was at Whatashame, a fully armed, full fueled, QRA jet could lift off at 3 a.m. And I'd sleep through it. But a mincing C130 landing at 3 a.m. would make me shoot awake. Go figure.

Can you remember the year that happened? We normally only scrambled 4 of them to get airborne inside 2 minutes. I was No4 on the last ever public Vulcan scramble at Finningley and turned back in from behind the crowd to do the air display after the first three had departed.

I went to school in Goole and we used to get formations of Vulcans flying over now and again. Not sure if that was associated with scrambles, but it was noisy all the same We just get the sole survior these days. On the thread in general, I'll never forget going to Coningsby and watching Lightnings do their party trick before they were replaced with the Tornado. Love fast jets, fast cars, fast bikes, fast boats, basically anything with an excessive abudance of power, hell I'd even go as far as saying some of the locomotives used by English, Welsh and Scottish are pretty impressive too.

Ref the original video Lightning XS904 (I think?), my grandad is one of the founding members of the lightning preservation group. I can remember getting the day off school to go see the day they took delivery of their second aircraft, the one in the video.

I also got to see XH588, the last flying vulcan at the time when it came to Bruntingthorpe. Had some great times there when I was knee high to a grasshopper, must take the kids along to of the L.P.G open days sometime, was great to see the video.

Thanks for putting it up! Brought back some great memories!

I flew the Vulcan for just about 12 years and would not have missed it for anything.

You would find the Vulcan with the 300 series engines hard to beat then. Its all one big wing in the first place with incredibly powerful and effective flying controls. They were light as well-you fly it with a single handed control column and at display fuel weight it had almost as much thrust as the weight of the aircraft. Thats why it would go vertical off the runway. Easy to fly inverted at the top of a vertical wing over.

It was the best "hooligan" machine going believe me!
