Toucan in action via You Tube (I'm assuming it's the most up to date unit?):

I'll be looking to get one put in - very useful bit of kit by the looks of it.

It's very clever kit, everybody wants one as soon as they clap eyes on it! The versatility makes it really useful, and compared to a set of Defis something of a bargain.

To confirm, anyone with a programming kit will have the software upgraded at the same time to accomodate it with no extra cost.

These are the specific details from AlcaTek for the ECU's that are updateable. As you can see, it's by far the majority.

"An ECU purchased new from May 2007 onwards will be able to take the upgrade.

The first 2K was in August 2007, so all 2K ECUs will be fine.

The first 99 ECU was in October 2007, so again, they will all be fine.

Only the very first 50 or so ECUs (mostly 96 some 97) can't be done."

No, not the most up to date. This is newer, although perhaps more a promo for Syvecs as they describe it as a "Syvecs touchscreen display" rather than the JT Innovations Toucan: but they do a good job with the video

I take it I can get my existing Simtek replaced by sending it away to AlcaTek (via my mapper?)... Getting my mapper to tweak the AlcaTek (should I want to)... And then fitting a Toucan at any stage later on?

Or do I have to buy the Toucan at the same time as AlcaTek?

BTW, this all brilliant news for us original Simtek owners. (Who remembers the other 'Simtek upgrade doom and gloom' thread -- how things can change! )

Pretty good we think, certainly in terms of cost, availability of mappers, product support etc. not to mention the features, which are a radical step forward for a small outlay.

Re: the Toucan...

How easy is it to wire up?

And also to easily mount somewhere in my STi 5 - any ideas?

Take a look on the website and you can download the Syvecs user guide/installation instructions - the AlcaTek version will be there later today

Basically, there's a single connector that plugs in to the ecu, plus 4 wires with bullet connectors for battery, switched battery, ground and lighting control. That's it.

There are three mounts to choose from - a windscreen sucker mount, a vent mount, and the standard "permanent" mount which screws or sticky pads somewhere of your choice. It uses the "Herbert Richter" 4-prong system, so there are loads of other mount variations available.

Pictures of those on the website too.

Any more questions, please ask

Is there a cut of time to get the old simtek updated?
Am I right that this update can't be done until 1 July?

Yes. We've announced it slightly early on purpose to assist those who were thinking about buying an ECU. It's about making an informed choice!
We were also aware of one or two being sold on Ebay etc. and would hate anyone to sell something they should have kept.

There isn't any cut off point.

Your's is one of the previously mentioned New SimTeks and has nothing to do with Alcatek at all, so no there is no need to upgrade.
The Toucan screen isn't available for that ecu at present.

I'd say almost certainly yours will be fine. Any doubt, you just need to take the case off and give me the number.
