Having posted a thread a while ago asking what the new Simtek would mean for owners of the Alcatek ECU's I think it is fair to say that the general consensus including myself thought that we would be left out to dry so to speak.

I would publically like to thank Alcatek and all those who have helped the development of the firmware updates (I don't know who you all are in total so this is a blanket thank you) and new features, you have helped to breathe life back into something that was practically considered to be 'dead in the water'.

So a big thank you from me and no doubt quite a few other Alcatek owners who can now look forward to the new features, and be safe in the fact that we will have a very capable ECU for the future.

Well, nobody is happier than us to see all this new stuff coming along.
Andy's the smart one, we just feed him tit bits.
Having said that, Martyn's certainly been on his case!

What's the advantage of having Wideband Lambda Support?

Cheers

You'll be able to fit a wideband sensor should you wish and have the ECU running full time closed loop wideband control. This will allow it to trim the fueling if reqd at all throttle openings, instead of only idle and light cruise as with a Narrowband sensor.
Fitted in conjuction with the Toucan screen, you'll be able to monitor the wideband on the touchscreen and if using the Innovate products it communicates directly knowing automatically if the sensor fails.

I'm sure that's not even entered into any part of the design strategy, it's just about supplying what the market is asking for.
As a business, we are happy to map either system.

New ECU's are available, the upgrades won't be online until July. This is to give a very busy AlcaTek time to get the infrastructure in place. Bear in mind that there are around 1350 ECU's that could be upgraded, and I'm sure if they all turned up tomorrow there'd be a log jam!
We have been fitting a few of the finished article for test purposes with the agreement of certain customers. All pukka..

Am I right in thinking with my limited mechanical knowledge that will help with fuel economy? As well as a safety function. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

No you are absolutely correct, it trims both ways, so if it's a bit rich it'll lean it off, if it's a bit lean it'll richen up within of course it's set maximum trim level.

I just ripped up the carpet and hauled out my ECU and unscrewed the lid to check my serial number.

Felt like Charlie Bucket with the wonka bar and the golden ticket when I found it's a 99! Yee Ha!

I was also thinking the same..

Also, does anyone have a Toucan already mounted in a GC8? I'm not sure I like the options I've seen.

It uses the "Herbert Richter" 4-prong mounting system, so there are loads of options out there. I have seen pictures of Toucan mounted in various vehicles - I'll try and find links to them later...if you find a mount you like, let me know, and I'm sure I can offer it as an option

As for a discount, while Toucan will only work with newly installed AlcaTek ecus, that's something you need to discuss with your supplier/mapper. Once the upgrade for existing ecu's is available, a GB is certainly something I would consider
