That makes for an unhappy situation sometimes, both for us, as we're trying to fix it for peanuts, and the owner, who hasn't been able to fix everything that he'd like to. I can't win that one sometimes, being a local problem.
If we have the opportunity to deal with a car properly, being given the resources we need, we've proven we can turn out work as good as any and better than a great deal.

Here's a tip for you. If your new telly fails, take it back to the shop and ask nicely. If it's been purchased second hand, you can still take it back to the shop, but you have to ask even more nicely.
This is exactly the point these are older cars and people have the gaul usually the ones who wont SHELL OUT THE COIN to expect a remap to magically transform their car and fix all underlying issues. It don't work like that sonny! Even mapping newer cars, problems occur and if your not willing or capable of understanding the basics of meddling steer well clear of fiddling and modified cars. NOTHINGS BULLETPROOF. Yep it certainly boils my **** when people expect everything for very little as is clear from this thread. You have to work your way through these things and stretch your little brain and your wallet as modifying cars properly ain't cheap.

Had mine mapped and a little software glitch appeared whilst mapping but really that's my risk and if something now fails its my problem and I'm gonna have to be extra nice to people in the know to get it fixed. Comprendi?

I didn't say that.
In the big bad world out there, chaps have to take responsibility for running their own car. When I was a lad, yes, it was a while ago, I had to pay for my own car, including all the repairs.
When a car comes in, and it needs this and that, it all adds up. If the guy can't pay the bill, we can't do that work.
It isn't as though we're short of work, so we don't go in for "job creation" we have better things to do.
What we want is this; Every car fixed. Everybody happy. Sadly, you can't have everything, despite wanting to and making all the effort.
Of course we'd welcome anybody's business, but then you haven't given us any have you? You've had free and good advice, but you throw that back in our face.
I'm worried about you, I really am. What would you do if you had something really bad happen in your life?

Tbho I have to say that if a customer either is spending or has spent a lot of money then they do tend to command a bit more time or a bit faster responce but that is business I'm afraid but that doesn't mean the little guy gets left out in the cold by no means.

Just get over the fact you have gone about this wrong and be a man and get on the phone tomorrow and apologise and book an appointment to have it looked at

Being fair, we wouldn't see that as a big issue, the 740's can work very well. Sometimes we have to take account of future tuning plans, and sometimes, they just sell the car instead!

Don't be silly..
I meant that you worry too much about what is a small issue, and you need to lighten up.

Here is my tuppence worth, I think I spent close to, if not more than 20k with Enginetuner & the service I recieved was better than the service I'm currently recieving from a BMW dealership on a 36k car.

Mistakes happen, things go wrong. Talk to Alan & come to arrangemnt to rectify the situation. The fact that you have been bleating about your problem on this forum & Alan has still been polite & courteous towards you & offering the the olive branch, you should at least talk to the man on the phone or better still in person.

@ tweeks, nothing removed from car, owner wasnt what id say mechanically minded.

obviously not a small issue to you as all this from me saying quite a few people have had problems with yourselves.

you have not even acknowledged anything or even accepted/denied any statements.

just smoothed it over and painted me out and others have that im a skintboat c"%t thats whining about not getting his car fixed for free.

when i never asked for that or any work to be carried out yourselves.

i see threads on here of people saying i had a bad experience with so and so garage and people say yea my mate too,and another says yea me an my mate and people dont say anything.

but now i get jumped on for saying a few people i know have had problems, and im branded someone who is young and knows nothing about cars etc.

business is business every company has bad customers, the fact you have not acknowledged anything i have said, again just sidestepping.

As my old man has always said to me 'son we are only human' to which we all can and do make mistakes but it's how we correct/deal with said mistakes that defines what we are made of and who we are.

You haven't even given Alan a chance to sort the problem your having so now would be a good time to deal with this behind closed doors

ive already said that every company has unhappy customers,i understand that,

the fact that people i know have reported bad experience with yourselves obviously taints my view towards your outfit

i have not once said that i am unhappy with the car and i want it sorted by you or anything along those lines.
i have said the previous owner had problems because its true, and because i live in the vaccinity and have friends also into cars,i do hear of incidents and meet unhappy people.
its not my fault i havent met anyone in person thats a big fan of aj although the previous owner was still keen on em-ish.

so at the end of the day,i did post a couple of comments, reflecting the other side of your business,so string me up.

everyone knows not all engine tuning goes well, dont really read of any bad ones going on here though, for obvious reasons..

i have seen some of martyns work and results and some of them are imressive,i admit it.
although like you said,"you need the correct reasources etc".

and id love to hear this news that im gonna really kick myself about,

infact im intrigued pretty sure its probably fictional though

heres another person from plymouth, saying similar things.

sorry to rob your comment on my thread but tbh i think it needs to be posted as everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and slating me without actually reading all the thread.

by marcevs72. about AJ

well maybe ishould post up how they made me wait for my car when they broke an intercooler pipe saying they were replacing it and then the next day it blows apart because they superglued it...then had the nerve to say i had to pay for replacing it....then there are the ****ty pm's on here from alan giving me greif and saying tough you have an old car...as you say 2 sides.plus i am one of dozens of people that have had grief with alan well before he started being a subaru specialist.i am 40 years old and spent all my life in plymouth and watched his business go from one place to another.oh and i see you have a 2.1 lump from them ,of course they will bend over backwards for you as your spending 1000's with them.
it shouldnt mateer whether your spending £10 or 10K you should be treated the same.

this is my opinion and have stated before martyn and the lads are brilliant and do a top job but alan is a grumpy old man that treated me like crap after bodging my car so i feel i have the right to my opinion.if people have been treated differently then thats great for them....end of.

another person to add to the list id forgotten about.

again like i said every company has unhappy customers but come on people. superglue and engine components?
along with all the rest.
and if you read the thread theres some thoughts on ap motors, our other local tuner.
were not spoilt for choice down here unfortunately.

The person you speak of has had first hand experience, whether true or not at least he has actually dealt with them in person and isn't just slagging off some company he has never even used, the other thing is you went on a thread where there was a happy customer giving some good feedback and for no reason started slating the company, I personally don't think your going to understand what you have done wrong no matter what but what is worse is the fact that they were willing to help you even though you are not a customer but just carried on slating them and dug yourself a deeper whole, you cannot even be 100% sure the person you bought the car off isn't hiding the fact there was/is something more serious wrong with the car, I wouldn't stop going back until my car was running right and I expect nearly every single other person on here would do the same, imo you just don't have any right to be slagging off a company you have never done business with.

they werent exactly willing to help, they said u could have called blah blah,if i took the car down now it would come out with more problems than before, you just wouldnt notice them with a quick look

so my friends and and ppl ive met etc spending over 10k and being unhappy doesnt count as experience dealing with ET.
ok not by myself but its still business and work carried out by that garage so it cant just be palmed off cuz it wasnt me that was unhappy

I had autronics fitted to my 2005 sti, mapped by a very reputable subaru tuner and had similair problems, i.e cold start was very irratic, it would hunt between 1-2k rpm but settled when up to temp. Occasionally the car would start driving like a bag of s**t so would pull up and the idle would be high. I took the car back and it was mapped again... still the same. So i tried a different mapper (2 in fact) and the end result was always the same. 2 of the said mappers are very well regarded and must be among the best in the country. I came to realise that in actual fact i could of had the car mapped 100 times by 100 mappers all with similair results. Before throwing wild accusations i did a little research and found that the ecu its self had no cold start (hence the problem). As for the high idle and poor running, i dont know. But what i do know is that it was the same with every mapper. coincidence??? I dont think so. Poor software??? Most definetley. Anyway morale of the story is... sometimes you have to look further than the end of your nose for somebody to blame

Did you read the whole of the thread that you posted a link to?
You have no experience of this company all you have is minor tosh which you have read which has been explained very well by Alan himself usually and apparently what your friends have told you, I read somewhere about a nissan I think it was where you said something along the lines of "they said it had more to go then the engine blew" maybe it did have alot more to go as was running safe with no det, good afr's etc and a dodgy conrod or something along those lines let go? Anything can happen really, a mapper can check certain things but he cannot magically look at the internals of your engine and see if they are all 100% perfect, I have a company near me called Regal motorsport who locally have an absolute terrible reputation but in all fairness most of the bad feedback has come from idiots who do not know what they are talking about, someone told me they repaired a liner with an old baked bean can once after blowing a customers car Regal has been around years now and has expanded quite alot so can't be that bad just as I am sure if Engine Tuner were as bad as you try to make out they probably wouldn't be in the position they are today, you have the advantage of being local so know the history of the company probably alot better than most but generally there seems to be a hell of alot more good feedback than bad and they have a good rep all over the country, not just where you are. Fact still remains that you hijacked some poor happy chappies thread and slagged the company off which which there was absolutely no need for.
