We have been faced with "mission creep" a few times, where the customer swears blind he isn't going over X bhp, and then goes on to add another 100 or so. This has resulted in one of our open deck blocks running for two years of track use at 520 bhp!
Of course, given the choice, we'd go closed deck every time, but we've proven the lesser alternatives can do the job if built properly.

I disagree there.......Poor quality manufacture from cheap forgings leading to metal defects and failure not down to bolt stretch.

I know K1, Manley & Eagle H-beams (amongst others) are made in the same factory in china. Eagle & Manley have had loads of documented failures accredited to the rod (not bolts used), but K1s have had few, if any failures. figure that one out? I was told by a well respected tuner that it was down to the fact that the rods were finished elsewhere but I cant get there.

One of our cars running a forged 2.5 and twisted turbo set up made 511 on the rollers at Powerstation a while back. Then, Danny the owner, had it mapped with 20% methanol, so the expectation was about 550 in that guise. We stripped it to rebuild as a 2.1 stroker and found that ' mission creep ' from the original spec. meant it was running on Standard Subaru head bolts.......................... never missed a beat, never blew a gasket and set really competitive times.

Sometimes you are just plain lucky...............

On the other hand, we get some customers that just can't get enough.
Bugeye STi. Road car. 2.1 with S206 turbo. 508 bhp. Lovely.
Decided to go for more with twisted kit. 565 bhp. Very fast.
Wanted even more, now at 686 bhp. Unbebloodylievable.

It's booked in next week, we now have a brand new EJ22 block for it.....

SO we did away with the bore squirters. Problem solved!! and I am not convinced that they are necessary on a high power, high quality component build.

WRC engines don't use squirters as Prodrive say that they sap power and rev- ability, due to the force exerted under the piston crown that needs an amount of power to force the piston against the oil flow.

On an engine that is limited for power anyway by the air restrictor that is a more critical than problem than usual.

I'm not too bothered about the squirters sapping power, i'd rather foresake x amount of power for reliability. Are the squirters a positive to have on the CDB's or just a gimmick? Also how are the skirts "relieved"?.
