I agree with the last bit though. I would never dream of driving without tax and insurance.
Is that not necessity by design though? I.e. could you not move house for the benefit of work, if you were unable to drive that is? I'm not saying you should have to, of course.

I couldn't agree more with this.

Not really, none of the jobs are close to each other. So no matter where I moved too, I would end up having to drive to some of them
And I would no way give up being self employed for anyone. I like being my own gaffer

If you can't afford it... don't do it.

A privilege on what basis though Moley?

That the Insurers get their pound of flesh?

I easier way to make sure more people get insured would be to make it cheaper.

How did we survive years ago without ANPR?

If people don't want to pay the money for tax, insurance or fuel do you agree they shouldn't have to?

Yes, insurers make money, but so do the fuel companies and the government.

Where do you draw the line? Can't afford driving lessons so drive without a licence. Can't afford tyres so drive on bald ones?

What suggestion do you have out of interest to make insurance cheaper?

And if insurance is so expensive (and i agree it is expensive), why do 90% of people i speak to insist on paying an extra 10-15% per year to protect their NCB, if they are so confident they'll never claim?

There's always people who won't pay but as prices/cost go up more people will fall into that category and become law breakers.

The problem is bad law and government policy making motoring costs too high. It's not just people being bad and being scum.

Doubt many can afford to pay full premium rather than 35% of it ... My premium is great (thanks gary) but I'd be f#cked if it was 3 times as much!

They check with the insurers database to check if I'm entitled to a free chip fix. They said, 'we can't find you car sir'. Que? Reason being that my car is now on it's 3rd registration number. I've had it since end 2005 with the same number. My insurers, the same all that time, have had that number. The DVLA send me the correct documents with the correct number, yet after 6+ years Autoglass couldn't pick up my car .... One example of how things will go "wrong".

And what will happen if your car gets flagged as "uninsured" on the forecourt? Maybe Tesco et al will have some private security "heavies" come out and "hold you until the police arrive". In my case above I wouldn't be very happy, to say the least. Or maybe the forecourt will still have just a couple of old ladies running it who will not be able to say "no" to a couple of thugs who come inside and threaten them. Maybe not in town, but what about a small petrol station in the country? One chap running it all day. It's just inviting the thugs to steal from him.

OK. Rant over ..... it's just a bleddy stupid idea

I have to be honest the anpr system is crap I had my old BMW insured with Adrian flux for about 2 months, got stopped by the police for having know insurance! But wait this gets better!

The said copper then refused to ring my insurance company to confirm the car was actually insured. So 20mins later a recovery truck turned up to collect car and impound it! This was on a Saturday evening and couldn't collect it until Monday morning!

I ended up having to pay the impound fees and then claim them back from the police!
