The head of Epic games agrees with me,

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...ontroller.html

Huddling around the iPad to play games isn't fun, even Monopoly. But, games played on TV from the iPad via Airplay turn the iPad in to a controller, its like the new offering from Nintendo, it works quite well as a steering wheel and displays different information with mulit-touch.

Galifrey, what the maximum resolution of a PC game on a single screen?

It also has bluetooth - the very latest low power version - for adding controllers.

2560x1600 typically

That's pretty much limited by the screen though.

Have you actually tried one of these wireless steering wheel controllers? They're awful. No feedback, no real clue as to where the "wheel" is turned etc. Might as well ditch the thing and use Kinnect for all the feedback you get!

I can run mine at 2560x1600 (which is slightly more than the iPad3).

I can see tablet based devices doing quite well in the "casual" game market (angry birds and the like) but it's pretty hopeless for anything else. Also, it only has very limited storage capability. Where are you going to install those multi-gigabyte games?

Hey that's better than I though, but it's all about the PPI.

Yeah, which is ironically better than the new iPad, which is 2048x1536 and only 1920x1080 via the external DV adaptor. I'm not even going to get into a texture quality comparison discussion.

Wrong again Jack...

"I can see Tablet games doing well" you only have to look out the window to come out with that statement, iOS has already stormed the gaming market. A developer on here laughed at me when I suggested the iPhone would have an effect, I guess he's in a corner still still sucking Lemons.

Come back when you can look past yesterday.

That's fine if you want to game on an 11" screen but I'd rather use a larger screen and sacrifice the PPI.

Or multi screen and go 7680x1600

No its not about the PPI, its all about the distance of the display device from the viewer. Whats the point of 264PPI on a 100" projector when you're sitting 10+ foot from the screen?

You just try so hard to get one up on every comment, and fall flat on your face every time, funny really.

Yeah, I went to the cinema, they had a 4k projector, in your face iPad.

I just looked at the price of a comparable monitor, those are cheap! And a card to drive it? And an Overcocked PC?

Come on guys, you're comparing Cinemas and multiple thousand pound monitors with a mobile device that's under £500 just to try to one up me. It's pitiful.

Give it five years and you'll be using that stat to prove me wrong about the iPad 10.

Actually you brought it up, we just proved you wrong and now you're falling back on the price argument. Its not a "multiple thousand pound monitor" its 700 quid to do 2560x1600, wrong again...

I never said it wasn't doing well. Did you actually read the post? Tablet based devices are doing very well in the casual games market, however this is where they will stay for the foreseeable future. To take over from a console based system, they need to be better and provide a more immersive experience at a price that is not prohibitive. The current crop of devices fail on all of those points.

The new iPad is released tomorrow Iain, did you see the launch titles, compatible with current console launch titles and developers won't ignore the market even if Scoobynet dismiss it.

So, that's s monitor that costs more than a macintosh, and that's a low end monitor. Hilarious.

I just don't see the appeal to play top end games on an ipad. Yes I have Infinity Blade on my iphone and it's great but it just doesn't even compare to the immersive experience you get from console/PC gaming.

Sorry Jack, you are spouting total poo as per usual, the ipad isnt even in the same category as a PC or console (xbox/ps3 etc) when it comes to gaming, it may be on par with a nintendo DS but that is about it, that quad core graphics isnt a match for even some of the lower (dare i say it) S3 chips from 10+ years ago.

If you think its all about x ammount of cores then you are also incorrect, there is more processing power in my poor little i7 chip with its built in HD3000 graphics processor, and I have a seperate graphics card for doing all my graphics, where as a tablet is good in its own area, you are trying to compare a fiat panda to a Ferrari 458.

When you figure out the above, you will be the one sucking on lemons as you so love to say

Tony

Funny, I cant find a new usable "Mac" for under £999, and it certainly doesn't to the resolution of the monitor in question. The "high end" and most expensive version is only £840, still not multiple thousands though is it, wrong again...

Which titles, and how do they compare to the console versions (every single console->ipad/android conversion I've seen so far has been pretty poor)?

I can't be bothered CrewJ, I answer the questions and the nay sayers just add "yeah but" it's pointless, I stated my case and was pretty much called an idiot, the same as ever they'll all suck lemons given a few months, then it'll be "yeah but".

Isn't that how a discussion works?

In any case I still can't see the ipad taking over the major consoles.

anyhoo, back on topic (if that is possible now), the xbox 720, any more info on it yet?

How are they planning on delivering games? Download or solid state? Also, can anyone see Sony bothering to bring out something to compete?

Not sure it's a good move. Instantly destroys any high street selling (which mind you is slowly going anyway), but also requires a lot of storage space in the device itself. With the increased graphics capabilities of the new machines (higher resolution textures etc), games are going to be even larger. I can see games easily reaching 60gb per title. There are already dual-layer blu-ray games for the PS3 which are nudging 50gb now! Any console that is download only is going to require huge storage capacity and users without bandwidth capped broadband connections...

Haven't really thought about it that way. I suppose Sony are ok with Blue Ray disks for a while.

Game developers just need to evolve/plan for streaming/download content delivery. For example, why do I need to download the textures/sounds for a level that I wont get to for another week? Why not just do it in the background when I'm playing the levels to get there. Guild Wars has done this excellently for many years. 4TB hard drives are out now, who knows what they will be up to by the time the 720 comes out. 4TB is over 60 titles at current dual layer BD size, adding a caddy or hot swap drive system wouldn't be difficult if people really wanted to keep all their titles on hand, however I know I dont use more than 10 titles regularly, not sure about you lot?
