Apple Event - 7th March
All of those - it comes with a 30 pin 'dock connector port' wtf? I ask due to the difficulty of connecting things to it - surely the brains at Apple would have made it easy to connect a camera to a screen which screams for pro-photographer usage? USB or SD card reader etc. See the reviews of their current connector for cameras - doesn't exactly inspire - I'd be tempted if I thought I could connect to it away from home but I'm struggling to trust it:

My question about 3G/4G connectivity is a serious one. None of the people I know with ipads uses theirs with a sim (those who bought 3G wish they hadn't as, beyond the initial novelty, soon realised the connectivity is pants and not worth paying a monthly subscription for another sim card). Overseas is surely even worse due to horrific roaming charges?

Agreed, I use the SD adapter all the time with no issues at all when out and about otherwise I upload the pictures to my laptop and add them to the iPad with a simple sync through iTunes. Easy.
As for 3G, I'm glad I got one with 3G and would do again if and when I upgrade. I use it just about everyday.....in fact I'm posting this now using 3G.

We have a few coming to the team next week, so I'll have a play then. It's going to be a bit of a challenge for User Experience teams though. We ran the iPad retina simulator on a 27" iMac and at 100% it doesn't fit on the screen, so you have to scroll to see it all. Scaling to 75 / 50 percent can be done, but you then lose the exact reason you want to see it at a 100 percent.
This makes it one of the few updates that'll require on device design / analysis.
Having said this, text is super crisp, as to be expected, and assets don't look too bad. A week from releasing the sim to the product launch is not a lot of time to get apps using the new assets and in the store seeing as the approval process can take 7 - 10 days.
A few people did pre-empt things and upscaled on the off chance, but most did not, silly to add size to your app.
Nice to see a lift in the cellular data download size for apps though, 20 to 50MB,

Far from it
I don't upgrade my Apple devices whenever a new one is released, I currently have iPhone 3GS (had for 3 years), AppleTV (had for 3 years), iPad 1 (had for 2 years) and a Macbook Pro (had for 3 years)
I take my iPad with me when I work away in Milton Keynes every week so it will be nice to Facetime to my wife's iPad2 and see the kids etc and it will be much better using Netflix on that new screen
Besides, I get my bonus letter on Monday

ok i'll rephrase it,
quadruple sucker,,,,,,,,

You are just one of those sad anti apple folk who have no idea what they are talking about and have to bash anything apple. Those types are just as bad as the apple freaks who queue up for days for the latest gadget and boast about it, you are just the other extreme of the spectrum.

While alo of whats said is tounge in cheeck, I can appreciate what they are, reliable, easy to use, however they're expensive and very limiting in what they can do.
It's apples way or the highway, well i'll take the highway and do my own thing lol.
I just don't understand why people seem to think they have to have the lastest or all the possible available gadgets and i dont think they provide good value for money.
My phone is 3 years old, most other people change phones a lot more frequently.
I don't have an Apple device that is under 2 years old which kind of goes against your argument.
I would disagree about the value for money comment but then again we're all different
What part of my post makes you think I have to have the latest or all the possible available gadgets??

TV, computer, phone, tablet,,, did i miss anything? lol
2k for a macbook compared to half that for a pc kinda says value for money isn't great
Tidgy, be careful not to run into any facts there ;-)
My MacBook pro cost me £1100. It's still fast enough for photoshop, etc.
I think the iPad is great value, especially the iPad 2 now.
I've used a few android tablets now and I'm not impressed with the whole user experience.

I like to think of myself as a fan of Apple products but certainly not a sheep.
I managed to find an educational discount for my Macbook Pro and only paid £800 in the end, not too far away from a decent laptop, 3 years on and it still looks brand new and I could sell it on for a decent amount of cash!!
But yes you're right I do have a few Apple products though!!!
I like to skip one or two generations and that gives me time to get my value from the products I have.
I'm like that with everything though, paid 25k for a new car in 2006 and I'm keeping it until it's 10 years old and fully depreciated because I'm turning into a cheap skate the older I get
However, after reading forums on AV Forums and Mac Rumours I do agree that some people are just crazy, people who bought the iPad2 less than 10 months ago are upgrading to the new model....crazy!!

Don't get me wrong, i know im generalising, but what i do know is if i were to go out and buy equivelants the none apple would come in way cheaper.
Tidgy you also need to factor in resale value which affects the overal cost of ownership.
I do agree with you because whatever you buy there are always cheaper alternatives somewhere

For computers resale is something silly to look at, if your keeping it for 3 years and then getting a new upgraded model who are you going to find who wants to buy a computer that out of date?

A few things.
The Ipad 2 resolution is more than adequate with high res photographs. its not the resolution thats the limiting factor - its the screen size itself
I pay 3 £15 a month for 10gig of data. Works fast, reliably and as Jack has pointed out allows me to connect anywhere.
The apple connectors for card reading work just fine. However, ipads are not really ideal photo storage anyway, when you're looking at 30mb or more for a high res raw file from a decent SLR or studio camera.
Tidgy have you actually used any Apple products for a decent amount of time to have an opinion of them? Again i'm no sheep, I have an ipad1 which I bought refurbished for a fraction of the original rrp and won't be upgrading yet, I have an iphone 4 and only got that after having the iphone 3 and skipping the 3GS and to be honest as long as the 4 doesn't break i'll be keeping it and not upgrading for a long time as it does all I want it to.
I've tried android phones and tablets and in comparison I hated them. Plus when I originally bought my iphone 3g that's when I started buying all the apps and Android wasn't even a contender back then so I wouldn't swap OS further down the line as that would mean losing all the software/games i'd bought which would be a waste of money and incur more expense rebuying them on Android.
I will also point out Apple have an excellent record for customer service and warranty, try finding that for HTC for example.
Both my ipad and iphone do all that I want from them, the only thing that interested me in the ipad3 was the speed and gpu performance as the only thing I could criticize my ipad1 for now is it being slightly slow compared to the latest stuff and software that is designed for the latest spec therefore suffers in performance on the ipad1.
The idiots you see on TV screaming and shouting for Apple products are not representative of everyone who owns an Apple product thankfully.

I didn't think I'd be tempted as I only bought my iPad in June, but I am! Just chucked in a big fat invoice that will cover the cost and my good old Mum seems to be able to use the iPad where PC's leave her dumbfounded.

Thanks - I'm only thinking about using ones for photos when out and about (e.g. on holiday / away for the weekend) and we want to review what we've taken on the slr. I'm unconvinced by photostream (files too big for that) and highly amused at the idea of taking a laptop to load files to, then using iTunes to get them onto the ipad (???!). Doesn't itunes compress pics?
The reviews of the camera connector still make me nervous (ignoring that software upgrades sometimes cause problems, there are enough people on the apple reviews saying they just don't work to be worrying). I can at least check that by taking an SD card from the camera with me to make sure the Apple shop can convince me it works before buying.
However, the feedback re SIM cards is very useful - I'd wrongly assumed you had to have a contract so this way makes it more interesting.
