WRX STI Spec D - Accident Thread
#62
I'll bear this in mind, in the past I've only ever had them freeze completely shut when the temperature was around the -6 to -10 mark. The bumper's going to be coming off anyway before the repair is complete so plenty of time to be repaired.

Feel do bad for you. The car needs a front panel. Once that's done all the alignment issues will be solved. But please get them to remove the film. It's doing more harm than good to the fresh paint.

Now that I've caught up with the missed hours at work the first post has been updated with the last couple of days 'progress'
Resigned myself to a heavy financial hit on the car when/if it can ever be sold on but still expecting the bloody thing to be put back to it's pre-accident state.
The subject of an alternative repairer has been discussed and the 'wash our hands' of our failures attitude is not acceptable to me, should I find a bodyshop to take on the rectification work. So I will pursue a repair to the appropriate standard within Marker Study's approved repairer network.
Even if I found a repairer to take on the work, who would want to warrant the work carried out so far? and there would still be a financial hit at the end of the day.
I will wait with interest to see whether Marker Study have the infrastructure in place to deal with and resolve complaints to the benefit of the customer rather than their bottom line.
As far as I'm now concerned Marker Study ****ed it, Marker Study fixes it.
On a side note, the trip to Nationwide was rather amusing for a number of reasons
- The car was parked round the back, rather than outside reception this time, next to the other write offs. That did raise a wry smile and hopefully isn't a sign of the future.
- Watching the Workshop Manager trying the get the bonnet to close while I was putting the socket set away, it has to dropped from an excessive height to get to close properly.
- Walking passed the 5 door Hawkeye Impreza owned by one of the Workshop Technicians. Granted it was a normally aspirated model but it does show how the bonnet and bumper align.
Also pissed off that I'm not in the Forest of Dean watching the Wyedean Forest Rally, first time I've missed it in 10 years.

Hi Andy,
An interesting photo that may well explain what I saw on Wednesday
This is how mine looked like in January 2011 after spending a 'barmy' night camping in Wales and the washers stayed down.

Updated the first post with progress from the last couple of days and a new front panel is going to be fitted to the car, hooray
Should mean I get the car back in time for the Malcolm Wilson Rally based in the Lake District and I won't be going anywhere near Sca Fell this time.

i have follwed this from the start mate and i cant still believe they cant get it sorted.
the insurnace broker/company is an absolut disgrace and i would be going to trading standards/lawyer regaring this mate as you have already said,if you tried to sell it then a simple search would shw up this thread and your going to take a heavy heavy loss through no fault of your own.

well a simple google search for spec d would bring up various links to forums like here.
and most folk check up on the cars there going to buy so it could pop up in a search and then they find out.
same as people come on forums asking about cars ther going to buy or search usernames posts before they buy.

Updated the first post with today's update and Thursday would currently appear to be the day, I think a mixture of trepidation and intrigue at what I will be presented with would be the best way to describe my feelings.
Andy, yep it has certainly been a DIY job getting things sorted out and chasing around (well it has felt that way most of the time), thankfully I have an understanding employer.
The comment about valuation was a reference to the way the new passenger side wing has been painted:
Would this not set alarm bells ringing if you were looking at a car and saw this? It was noted in the PDF of issues that were compiled after the second repair.
If a rabbit does get pulled out the hat with the repair I'll keep the car for a couple more years, by which time it will have 100K miles on the clock and won't be worth a great deal anyway.

I sold my silver Hawk with the front wings looking like that. No idea why it was like as I bought it nearly new, with very little miles and from Subaru. History was fine and had no problems part exing it. Still if you pay your insurance premiums for a proper repair then thats not the point.

What a nightmare mate.
I have been in you shoes with John Martin bodyshop in Aberdeen. They actuly caused more damage to my car by resting tools and stuff on the roof and scratching it, and the window pillar when reparing damage to my NSF door on my old Astra.
My car was back 3 times still not good enough. In the end my insurance gave in and let me take the car to a bodyshop of my choice 3 days later car returned to me in as new if not better than before condition.
Best of luck with the repair mate.

After hearing nothing from Nationwide I visited them on Tuesday 20th to see the car. Although they're hardly rushing to complete the job the panel gap issues are finally being rectified and from the brief look there was only one left to tighten.
With the hire car the wait is less painful, at the end of the day it's miles going on someone else's car and not my own. Although paying £900 for Corsa 1.2 does make me feel 17 again

Although with a smaller fuel tank it doesn't go much further than the Scooby between fillups, nearly got caught out on the way back from the Scottish Borders.
