Amateur Budget 2.1 Stroker Project
Bargain bud, glad to see your still getting stuck in .dunno where to start with my project as i seem to know own 1 running scooby , 2donor cdb's and a lack of cash to get the internals lol
Coming from you mate that's a real compliment thank you very much
yes iv got the long engine out of the early wrx im breaking on ebay(to try to rase some £'s)
it runs sweet (with low knock figures on the apexi) seems a shame to split it just for the block halves . iv allready stripped the v1sti cdb heads off and had those ported
but then my uk turbo clutch spat its dummy out
after i had a esl board fitted and mapped
took a big chunk outta the "forge the scooby pot"
how comes you might not need your rods then bud
iv been using your thread for referance hope your not straying to far off plan A

All shall be revealed lol, I change my mind every 5 minutes.
I'd say sell the Cdb as a whole, the v1 heads aren't worth much on their own and you're probably more likely to sell in as a "drop-in" engine than a rebuild.
Some people are asking silly money on eBay.
Life is what happens while your making other plans.

The biggest update is I'm waiting for a date to move house, hopefully before Xmas. In the past few weeks its been new job, new car and now a new house. The new house though has a brick shed and a garage, so the plan may be to take the type r off road and break it when the tax/insurance are due in January.
I can't get on with the short ratio gearbox, or the fact the turbo comes in so early.
The engine is sweet so I should get a buyer, the Dccd gearbox should sell.
That should help the build come together nicely.

ffs mate thats the entrire name of the game getting these things to spool asap
Why? My type r is meant to red line at 8k, it's run out of puff by 5k. It's not in any way a daily driver especially compared to the old wrx, which could be driven like an ordinary car until you fancied creeping past 4k.
I don't understand anyone who wants a turbo car that acts nothing like a turbo car, just buy a car with more cc and normally aspirated.
All that said its bloody good fun.

Finish the 2.1, bolt the V3/4 heads off your current engine to it, get a 6 speed or later 5 speed box, half decent sized turbo - not the TD04 that seems to be fitted, run in, remap and away you go.
It's very easy me saying that, but, I truly believe that's what you should do.
Thanks Micky, do you think it's td04? If the old wrx was short ratio it didn't notice. I'm plodding along at 40 and realise I'm in 4th! And the engine @3k is wanting to go.
Getting the 2.1 bottom end built is the biggest hurdle. The heads I have.
As since the beginning money is the biggest problem. Especially at this time of year, move, new job, Xmas on the 25th, youngest boys bday on the 29th and little girls 2nd bday on New Year's Day.
Has anyone had a typer in the past and found it spooled too early?

That's what I thought it would be as its relatively standard but I haven't looked that closely just yet. I have no idea though why as its near standard why it would run out of puff 3k before the red line.

It's probably not a TD04, but, they're ickle turbo's and don't tend to hold boost to the redline.
I'll check what speed my UK box is doing at the same revs in same gear on Friday.
Just put finishing the build off until after the new year. Whatever you decided to do, you'd have to do head gaskets. You've already got the best classic heads, attach them to your soon to be built short motor.

Keep at it, little bit's as you can afford, and you'll have a cracking car when finished.

Cheers Micky. It's going to be new year now, everyone has been instructed that money is required for Xmas not socks.
Once the bottom end is done its smaller, cheaper steps from then on except the box.

Thanks Micky, I'll have to check when I remember. Its a VB5CA which looks to have a different 3rd and 4th to most of the early 5 speeds.

Although it has also occurred to me that the power is gone by 5k in the "R" whereas when I was having a play in the WRX I wasn't changing until 6k so it makes sense that I'd be changing quicker and as it has more power then even more frequent lol.
Moving house has also presented another dilemma. Keep Sky Sports or have the extra £25 per month going towards "project mayhem"?.

Na, live streaming is always rubbish. With the F1 and Moto Gp finishing its only the football really that I will miss but can I sacrifice it for a year?...
Noooooo don't break it mate just keep going if the turbo is a issue couldn't u fit a bigger one so its a little bit more laggy ???
How is the engine build going anyway bud have you progressed any further with it ??

I have someone wanting the gearbox, and the engine will come out and be sold. I'm not so much "breaking" it but this new property I move into Saturday has a garage so i have the option to store it for a while.
I've got to complete my bike licence again before June, the tax and Insurance run out in January. It makes sense to pull the Type-R off the road just after xmas, do my bike assessment and sell on this ODB engine.
Bottom end build has been agreed, just getting the money together.

Oh well will have to wait till after Christmas now I need to win the lottery lol
Ha I know but money has gone on crimbo presents now so will have to wait I'm halt tempted to just go odb but have it pinned as I am only looking to achieve 400-450bhp and I know odb are limited at 500-550 but I will see get crimbo out the way and then let the fun begin
