You can't just post a graph and say nowt!

Did Simon have anything to say about it? And when did you change your name to Tony?

Lol, sorry .

OK so car is using full standard exhaust from front to back (IE CATS) and on TD04 and yellow's still so 288BHP is a pretty good figure I thought and Simon agreed.
800 Miles done, no point in a running in map lol.

Simon couldn't hear anything wrong with the det cans and said it sounds fine .

I think he assumed my name was Tony from my name on FB lol.

Well happy

Should make very good power with an exhaust, injectors and a bit of a bigger turbo.

288 isn't too shabby with a TD04 and a catted exhaust.

Thanks Micky that's what Simon said. I'm now starting to gain confidence in the engine and starting to drive it with a bit more belief and enjoying the car again like I did with the standard engine in it. It's all halted now though for the wedding etc and then start working my way up to TD05 20g, 740's and I have the full decat down pipe and centre I just need a back box. Then revisit Simon and see what we get dde03. Plus the TD04 probably wouldn't like the anti lag so that's something else to look forward to.

I'm not sure anyone's ever seen a 2.1 with cats and td04 before lol.

First oil was millers running in 10w40, changed at 100 miles for more millers running in and again at about 550 miles for semi synth 10w40. Oil filter changed each time also. I now need to go fully synth.
8 Weeks 'til I get married so everything is on hold at the moment until I'm back and paying off some debts.
I'm torn between the earlier spool of a VF48 or the brutality (I imagine) of a TD05 20g. 740cc injectors, full decat system back on and a remap on the ESL.
I'm actually not that bothered about reaching the relatively low target of 400/400 as the car @288bhp is a hoot to drive and I worry too much power may ruin it.
Since it was mapped a few weeks ago I haven't worked on the car, which is lovely as the first 800 miles was a real stop/start affair, it's nice to enjoy it.

i think you should try for a vf34/35 or a sc36 if you can afford it............the spool would be epic on a classic running a 2.1

I'm undecided as yet on turbo choice. I can't see it all coming together for quite a while. I think I'll enjoy it as it is, wait for the tax to run out in November and take it off the road for the winter with the mind of getting it all together fo next summer.

I honestly cannot believe the amount of pipework in a standard engine.....

I helped a mate fit a 2.1 in a bug with a vf something and it was a nightmare!

Glad you got it all in and working though! I bet it feels good after all this time!

It does. With only 288bhp it still feels quick. I've still not plucked up the courage to get it to 6k, even though there's no point. The TD04 has long run out of breath before that. The Type R is such a hoot to drive, the handling is just fantastic I'm surprised anyone looks at modifying it from standard. Sure it's bumpy, but if I wanted refinement I wouldn't own a Type R.

I need to stop with any mods for now. The wedding in 5 weeks time is taking up too much cash . And when we come back there'll be a lot to pay for and I'm told I'll be starting to decorate the house.

I'll enjoy it over the summer, then come September/October I'll have to look for a cheap diesel daily and sorn the Type R.

Women just take up too much cash, it seems cars and women are not compatible haha!

Driving to work this morning my Type R was hesitant. It normally struggles to idle when cold but seemed to idle high instead. I pulled over as there was also smoke coming from under the bonnet. I have the usual oil leak from the rocker cover gaskets onto the exhaust, but that usually only happens when its hot and had some boost. I thought I'd narrowed it down to the half moon on the back of the head and siliconed around it late last night.
When under the bonnet the turbo seemed to be smoking but I couldn't tell if it was that or rising up from the oil on the exhaust. I could hear water bubbling up in the turbo pipework, which considering I was only a mile away from home was odd.
I limped the other mile or so to work, by which time the car seemed to be running on 3 cylinders and vibrating through the cockpit when ticking over.

I've left the car at work until I can work out what it is. There was a small puddle of oil underneath on the R/H side when I looked underneath it earlier.
The engine is 1100 miles old since the forged rebuild, 2.1. It has Tesco 99 in it and has had since Saturday, and fresh 10w 50 millers CFS and a new oil filter put on on Sunday. The car ran fine Sunday/Monday.

Turbo, up-pipe and downpipe removed and nothing untoward has been found. I don't see to be able to find much in the way of answers of what this could be. On here, Facebook, 22b nobody seems to have an idea....

No gauges fitted is there and it's leaning around the bung? Or sandwich plate?

All the turbo feed and return pipes all
Sound with no splits?

All seals on block sound and all bolts tight from rebuild?

Just trying to fire something's out there bud

Gauges are fitted and even with the mis-fire and noise the reading's are good. Oil pressure is possibly a little high, reading 7.0 when cold but all good once warmed up. The turbo feed pipes all seem good, I couldn't see a leak at all, but could hear the water rushing through the pipes. The turbo is getting very very hot in a short space of time.
The oil level is good, it was only changed and topped up last weekend.

If the noise is coming through the air filter then it's most likely to be exhaust/turbo related no? I'd read some similar symptom's via google and a few found the pre-cat in the up pipe was loose, which to me made sense as it would upset the Lambda and possibly cause a mis-fire. The heat shield on the up-pipe is loose but I can't see it being that. The turbo has a little play, and is leaking a little (thick) oil at the air intake and into the FMIC pipework but I've spoken to JohnBraveheart and he said that can normal on a car not running a catch tank. He was a little lost too and advised it could be a burst oil drain.
Once the rain let's up I guess all I can do is put it back together and go from there...

Been poo'ing myself as most advice I've been getting in regards to the running issue's have been around checking the cam belt to see if it had jumped a tooth. All looks OK, compression tester on the way.
