And how do you suggest the parents find out how to disable purchasing? Work on the basis that most people who buy these things don't know how or are not aware that certain settings need to be checked - its not even pointed out to you by Apple drones whilst in one of the many overly sanitised Apple worship sites located in most city arcade centres.

It should be off by default or actually mentioned in the first place whilst buying the device. I guess the folks in the store need extra money for those crazy hairstyles and lessons in how to talk to people like they've known you all their lives. "Get a haircut and its Mr Scott to you, hippy!"

I guess Apple listened, as of over a year ago you need to enter your password for in app purchases even if you have turned off needing it to make normal purchases.

For your printer you have two choices, buy one that's AirPrint enabled, there are loads. Or run some software on a PC or Mac that's connected to the printer.

Android has a windowed app without rooting:

Windowed apps are next big thing coming to Android tablets and iPads this year.

Just thought I would add more fuel to the fire

I'm still very much pro Android, but this is proof that iOS is a multitasking OS, it's still s**t though .

Aren't they just deliberately holding back certain software that is already available, so that it can be released with the next iPad to make it seem like more of step forward than it really is?

'Look Apple fans, an iPad that can multi task without the need to Jailbreak!'

I think if you already have a MAC or don't need to know things like settings etc then iOS is fine. As JC mentioned "enjoy your hobby"

I guess apple is for cool people and android is for geeks - probably about right.

Last night I was using the nippers Ipad and after a short while I just found it awkward compared to using a laptop. This isn't a dig at either manufacturer, I just found it awkward without a KB.

One thing I would say is that when I'm using my android phone and I'm online it feels like using a windows based machine - if that makes any sense. It just feels like a small PC.

I found it ironic that after our boss bought an Ipad he bought a KB for it.

Well Apple does it again, another major security blunder, you won't find this level of incompetence from any other major vendor.

Changing the password is not the same as revealing/recording an existing one. Please do not attempt to make out they are comparable in severity.

I was using lophtcrack 15 years ago on domain SAMs - I know what's possible, and what is not necessarily guaranteed.

There is still a big difference between brute-force (and yes, dictionary attacks are still brute-force) and a specific failure in the password control that reveals a password.

Well replace Windows 7 with OSX, there's just as many tools or processes to recover/change admin passwords. Besides there's a difference between using a tool to crack a password to just having the the password written in a text file that sits outside of the encrypted area for all to see rendering FileVault useless and external Time Machine backups insecure. THREE months since this issue was first identified, it's still not been fixed, there's no getting around this and no one else to blame except to the down right incompetence of Apple.

All to see? Hardly. And let's be clear here, not a lot of Macs fit the bill.

I think I know your problem, you believe there's such a thing as a bug free, secure operating system, perhaps you believe you have one. This causes you to jump up and down whenever an issue is found with OSX or iOS, Apple are evil after all, that just gets you more excited and you have to repost the money making link to a crap miners find. You should find a more productive hobby. Have you tried Android?

This latest security blunder from Apple isn't a bug though, it is the result of an incompetent Apple developer who left a debug flag open and Apple's lackadaisical quality assurance affecting everyone who's updated to the latest version of OSX Lion. With your supposidly years and years of experience in IT security, do really believe that this is a fuss over nothing?! But then you are in a tiny minority of die hard myopic fanbois.

Jon, read your own post. This does not affect every copy of Lion, it's very specific. I use the included encryption with OSX, always have, you had to choose not to upgrade the encryption when upgrading to Lion, that wasn't an easy thing to decline.

Yes it's a mistake, but if you believe that there's an operating system that doesn't contain mistakes then you're a fool. I could sit here all day posting similar articles for other OS's but don't choose to feed the hype.
