What planet are you on ???????? You know sweet FA !! So keep your pikey comments to yourself !!
FACT: I myself can't be assed to drive 150 round trip, nor could one of the other guys which was Brighton and somewhere close to there to go to Manchester and back for 130 quids worth of brakes !!
FACT: Shaid has been to collect the engine and was sent on a merry dance !
FFS,if you can't trust a fellow Scooby fan who can you trust ?...I go to the meet's and in a club but if they haven't got what I want I buy elsewhere, just like I did with a chap (off here) who is based in Ayr in Scotland,if he choose to scam me which is has NOT I wouldn't drive a 500 mile round trip to collect etc !!

Calm down fella, the point he's making is to keep it local so you can view the item, pay for it and take it away ...

Your both right, but the trouble is I dont have a day that I can sign out of my schedule at the moment to go on a jolly for parts. In the lest two cars I broke for parts I only met a handful of buyers, the rest were dealt with through paypal or bacs and then carriers, even to Austria, Spain, and France! They will hardly want to collect, but at the end of the day I have only had a few issues, and in most cases I have sorted the "issues" out simply by return and refund.

I think myself as an honest guy, and at the end of the day people get to know you on your forum username alone, thus why I changed my username to my actual name. I have nothing to hide and like to think that most folk whom I deal with are of the same opinion.

Sometimes its just not a viable option to pick up.

I can post a bumper from Glasgow to Plymouth next day delivery for a tenner.

How many new authorised traders register on scoobynet each month/ week? Would it be feasible to introduce a manual ID Verification process, where anyone requesting an account needs to prove they are who they say they are.

The new trader would be required to post original bills / photo ID to a scoobynet P.O Box, something to prove he / she resides at that address. A scoobynet moderator would send originals back with a passcode to the users registered address.

A landline telephone can be verified against the address, using services from 192.com.

There are a range of online IDV services available to businesses, GB Group, 192.com (Experian). Obviously these options have cost implications but it might be worthwhile depending on how much scoobynet can charge authorised traders for this one off verification... Until the itrader feedback is at a high enough level for that user

If things go wrong with a transaction this IDV process will at least provide additional information to the buyer and police to progress prosecution.

This type of process should also be a deterrent for fraudsters.

I'm relatively new on this forum so don't know the ins and outs of itrader, does the itrader system show any ongoing transactions? So you could contact the buyers directly and ask why it's not been completed yet?, why have they not left feedback etc, this could raise alarm bells at an early stage if the seller has 10 open transactions but no feedback. Often people will see leaving negative feedback as a last final step, giving up on promises from the seller so maybe that's why in this case they didn't leave negative feedback for wrxcock? Maybe the buyers still had hope of a refund or product?

I don't think this process will be 100% fraud proof (buying from anywhere on the Internet) but some checks similar to the above will reduce the number of fraudsters having a go and in the event of something going wrong the person is traceable. If the fraudsters change address etc the police have the power to trace them using previous address / billing information.

Sorry for the essay, just my thoughts!

Because for all you know it could be a rented house in which he doesn't live there anymore. While most people are keyboard warriors if somebody (like myself ) got scammed out of £1000 I wouldn't think twice about going around with a .45 and getting my money back. So if he didn't live there anymore and you batter some other man that won't go down too well. Besides like it's been said before he could have other accounts and be watching this thread now. Would you scam somebody if a picture of your house, car reg and picture were on here for the world to see?

Not my idea, Lisawrx has to take credit for that, as she seems to be the one with sense that mentioned it months ago.

I think he means that to become a member you need to declare some id and proof of address beforehand, so yes only £2.00 but it makes it a little more difficult for those wannabe robbing ***** when they have a legit name, address, tel, and card details on file.

I use to use a company called TEC,as I owned a transport company,we had to supply insurance,LTD Co details etc etc,**** loads of stuff,it would be hard for us to "knock" someone as like here a feedback system, but with ALL systems people are scared,I bought a wing mirror off you for a fiver,it was crap, but I am to scared to leave bad feedback for you as I don't want you to leave bad for me,so I wait, and wait...No feedback is left !
So,a system called DPS,depoist protection scheme, where's you the seller or trader wage a said sum to the DPS and if you are a scum bad robber you lose the money you waged with the DPS...

Makes sense to me, great idea from Lisa there.

So as she came up with it months ago and it hasn't been implemented what was the reason for her idea being rejected..... I can guess of course

Erm, sorry... look at my join date Newbie.

There wasn't any 2 quid membership, and there shouldn't be now.

You - Scammer - Possibly

Me - Scammer - Nope.

Far too many people on this forum know me personally, to even have a nightmare about scamming someone, never mind think about it.

Pretty sure I mentioned it on here ages ago last time this debate was knocking about. It completely stops users bypassing the system and pm'ing buyers.

How to say, this has been similar on other forums where i'm member and this doesn't stopped scammers scam people.

On other forums you must have post count and you can see wanted and For sale section...

Agreed great idea, but can be later on turned against SN,best possible advise is don't ever send PP gift,if its possible go on your own car(by bus MegaBus cost £10 or others)if its expensive item, and if its from guy which has have low post count etc.

I'd just lock it down as a private area that is only accessible to full members. I don't think members paying for access to the for sale section really works IMHO.

there is only 1 way to stop scammers and thats to close the for sale section if i had to pay £30 for instance for a years membership and sell an engine by frieght for £600 I can scam that person and still be £570 in pocket and as for id checks the site cant really do it with lack of systems to check if the person is hthey ay they are and some DPA rules would come in etc

Im a member on a few other forums and most of them have converted to a member only sale section and sales have plumeted as ads dont show in google and around 60% of new members are looking for parts thats why they join and dont want to pay instantly for a membership fee before they can view and not get the part they wanted.

simple way is to pay via paypal and have the added security.

I'm all for it.

What I'd really like to do is just ban selling on here full stop As it can be a right pain in the **** trying to fathom out even the most minor disputes. If people want to buy/sell - use ebay. I do - and I really really hate it, but better the devil you know.

But don't worry folks, its not my forum, so thats not going to happen.

The last time we properly discussed access rights in the sales sections was in May/June 2010 which resulted in this compromise (and it IS a compromise):

And even then some people were not happy, for example:
