Why we hate the iPad..
I've had all the iterations of Windows from Windows 3.1 all the way through to Windows 7 and Vista was the only one that had one of my eye ***** twitching like Police Commissioner Dreyfus!!

On that point I do not agree.
IMHO Windows requires far more housekeeping than a Mac to keep on top of updates, clean registry, connecting to printers and other peripherals, disk space usage.
All things that a Mac user can avoid and simply focus on their use cases rather than PC maintenance.

If you want to dick around with different drivers and not use the bloated install and app that comes with various printers then you start to get into trouble with the right driver and how to install it. But I bet it is the same on Mac if you do deviate from the norm. As I said before if you don't **** with it and just use it as natur intended then you will not have any problems with windows as a domestic user. Windows also informs you if and when there are updates available. If you have a reliable upto date virus scanner and don't be dick with **** sites and unknown url clicking you should not get into trouble.

YOu telling me that you have used XP x64 and not had an issue?

THE worst OS after windows ME.
Vista x64 SP2 is fine - so long as you have decent computer
Yes I had that at work, and I admit that XP 64 was pretty crap! Funnily I had ME on an old compaq M300 lappie and it was fine, go figure. Vista on the other hand on my decent spec (at that time) T60, it was fine for the first week of a fresh install, but after that ran like paraplegic slug.
Omg
Just come back in from washing the Scoobies and I have started a technical war on here
The wife has been on the iPad on her fb and a bloke walking past said how clean the greenwagon is as usual
We got talking and guess what
He is getting his 2 kids iPads each for Xmas
Ones 8 and the other one is 14 so he will be wanting it for the **** and he won't get a virus from it !
The Dad told me the laptop is on its last legs as battery is done and the PC is running slow because of all the crap the kids have put on it no doubt
Simple and efficient
That is what it is all about
Apple
And all the kids will want the iPad for Xmas
I will let you techies back on now to sort out the real issues ,of why the non believers hate Apple and Jack will be back on soon to put you all right

In such poor economic times it beggars belief so many people can afford a £400+ item for each of their kids at Christmas. But it doesn't even come down to being able to afford it, £400 on one present seems an outrageous amount on principle for a child's Christmas present.
I agree in part that windows does need a bit of housekeeping, Can't comemnt on Mac as I don't use it and we don't have any. I can also only comment on HP stuff but if you buy a windows PC and an HP printer the printer comes with the cables needed and a picture how to plug it in. It also comes with a setup CD that you put in and it even runs itself. Just click ok a few times and it installs all the stuff you need and then prints a test page. What could be simpler?

On a Mac you attach a printer - it works!!!
(Mind you when they updated to Lion HP printers seemed to stop working for a month!!!)
From a techie perspective I disagree on this. Microsoft roll out patches once a month (Patch Tuesday)to keep their OS's upto date. OSX on the other hand only patch infrequently yet when ever I have seen an update come down to my OSX vms they have always included security roll outs. Microsoft just roll out more regularly.
Connecting a printer to either OS is the same on principle, both need the appropriate drivers/software installed to perform the functions the device is capable of.
Again disk space, nothing to do with OS, all dependent on size of hard disk provided on the machine and the amount of data the user stores.
Clean registry? Never had to do it but the I run antivirus and firewall and don't let malware get on my machines. Simple thing to do yet so many people don't bother.

Attaching a printer - Mac - it attaches in most cases; Windows I have to install drivers in most cases.
Of course once you start doing a few intalls and there is no central software update governance things get out of sync - then there are some updates from MS and things get out of sync. Then you need to clean up the registry to get things moving again.
And then you need to defrag your disk to get things moving again.
All things I have never done on a Mac.
Oh, and I do have anti-Malware/firewall/anti-virus filling up my Windows machine - all up to date.
Something else that doesn't worry me on the Mac.
Patch Tuesday is usually followed by IT Supports Nightmare Wednesday!

Oh and as for no malware on OSX i'd not rely on that and run Sophos antivirus on my OSX vms. If there was no need for it i'm sure Sophos wouldn't waste their time especially as it is provided by them free.
Windows will never have the luxury of only having to support Microsoft hardware, there'll always be some monkey sat between the hardware and the operating system adding it's own shoddy drivers and profit making additions. The flaws are fundamental and the patching is out of control.

Nah just a tidy up of NSR.
Three computer threads was getting too much. Figured whilst I'm sorting one thread I may well shift the whole lot.
PS I'm getting an iPhone early next year
(whether I keep it on not wil be down to if I can cope with the battery life)

On day you'll realise that Apple products are Non Scooby Related and the Computer Related forum is not the place for a thread that affects the majority of Scoobynet users. High traffic threads are gold dust around here.
It's cheaper then at home and gives you something to play with when your stuck in traffic jams
Make sure you put the apple stickers on your car windows
It's all about image really not this technical stuff really

You will be fine just buy a spare adapter and charge it up at work

Image don't count for much when I'm in a tent on the cambrian moutains with one bar of battery and no power source.

I'll give the stickers a miss; I don't fancy having my windows put in because some ******* think there is a macbook or ipad hiding under the seat.
