As for the STI just not practical enough for me, and also the only real gain would be the stronger gear box as i'm headed for 500bhp , the 5th door is more use at the moment than a six speed and crappy suspension that knocks, and my wagon came with AP 4pots

Anyone think paralell fuel rails and fpr might make a difference, i would have thought not really as thats just related to the fuel delivery.
I know its not needed at this level but i already have the fpr and want every thing in place for my next hike, better on the car than in the garage on a shelf.

Yeah, i'm tempted to go front mount but a bit concerned about lag, but i want to do everything in one go, then i won't have to keep forking out for map tweeks, as every time i get it tweeked i could of had more goodies.

FWIW, if you plan to get to 330 bhp and will not be exceeding 350 bhp then stay with your standard airbox and you don't need a front mount ON YOUR CAR. For a Classic yes you would need a front mount. THere should be no additional lag from a front mount if you fitted one however if it is efficient. This gearbox business fails to differentiate between the different gearboxes fitted to different model year cars.

You get scaremongers on here all the time Harvey. At some point in the future you wont be able to run 280 bhp on a 5 speed because someone will have shredded a box.
I've seen cars with over 350bhp and 350 lb/ft on a 5 speed, lasting 10k miles.
My TY754 box is 118k old and has run 336bhp and 300lb/ft for the last 20,000 miles and the only problem I had was the centre diff started to whine so I changed it.
After talking to Glenn at Carnetix he agrees with me that more often than not, people wreck gearboxes, not the power (up to a certain point).

When what they should have done is take a driving course and learn a bit of mechanical sympathy.
No gear box is bullet proof, if you rag the **** of it then it will let go.

My WRX made 328bhp off STI top mount, VF35, STI pinks, STI up pipe, Walbro and Green panel filter, APEXi 3 port, STI sports cat, prodrive decat centre going back into 3" from centre on.
That was on standard Sainsburys '97.
Some of you will think I'm nuts, but I always have the car mapped on '97 as sometimes I end up in places where I can't get V-Power or Tesco 99 and I don't carry Octane booster around with me - makes sense in my head anyway!
I have a slight blow at the moment in my up pipe - I reckon once that gets resolved and I return it to Simon for a quick tweak I might see another 5-10bhp out of her - I had a leaking gasket when I had it mapped on the TD04 and fixing that resulting in an extra 10bhp last time, and 281bhp on a TD04
The car pulls much better in the mid and upper range (so you don't run out of juice when overtaking at higher speeds) when I compare it to the previous setup with the TD04, but to be honest I haven't noticed a huge amount of difference lower down.
Anyone know if I'll potentially see anymore power if I go to 7's on the plug front at the same time as getting this fixed?

Interesting, that's pretty much what my original list looked like barring the STI up pipe but I'm sure they're not too hard to come by..
Cheers

Yep i'm the same with the fuel, don't want it mapping on vpower as it's a pain in the bum trying to find it everywhere i go, i'll never map for one fuel only ever again sainsbury's 97 for me and with the simtec on my type r i have 2 maps one for 95 and the other for vpower and the difference is a mighty 17bhp not really worth the hassell or the cost..

I also have a blowing up pipe on my classic which was running similar power to yours (336bhp & 300 lb/ft) but had it dyno'd recently and found that because the lambda sensor is after the up pipe its over adjusting the fuelling (which makes it rich and det-free) and has thrown the fuelling all over the place, resulting in a 30bhp loss (305bhp and 300 lb/ft). I'll be adding an sti up-pipe and full decat down pipe, plus a 3 port and remap on 97 so i'm hoping to see 330/330 with that lot (vf35, FMIC, full CAIK etc).

Well that's blown a few theories! Is the VF38 helping much then a VF34/5 would? In a wagon too, like it

Any octane booster in the mix? And what fuel?
Also - I'm interested to note you're running 7b's as I'm still on 6's.
Make a signifiant difference I wonder?
JGM mapped mine too

i only went for the vf28 as i got it for £170 from p1woc.
its only ever run on tesco99
it certainly seems the very topend of there power
and the figures are from surrey rolling road so not inflated in any way
car passes mot fine on emissions too and i still get about 260 miles per tank, the same as when standard!

I bet you get terrific spool off it as well given it's smaller than the VF35 equivalent. Interesting - my figures are from Charlie @ SRR as well - might have to get a set of 7b's and have a tweak once I get that blowing up pipe resolved..... that said mine was mapped on Sainsburys '97 so potentially I might have expected to see slightly better figures had I gone along with '99 or V-Power
Had the up pipe replaced with a nice new Hayward & Scott item, together with new gaskets (again!) all round, and a set of NGK 7's thrown in for good measure based on the post above!
Going for a map tweak tomorrow with JGM, and we'll see how we get on.
The car certainly seems a lot livelier already now that leak's been fixed.

Having paid a visit to Surrey Subaru Specialists over the weekend, looks like I had a few loose bolts on the underneath of the turbo, one slightly loose header bolt, but also a slightly worn up pipe too. So all in all, not very impressed with the work done to it, you live and learn.....
