I think if its the right car it'll sell whenever. clearly this is loads of cash, so xmas and hols is irrelevant.

at the bottom end of the market: i.e 5/10k cars, of course xmas will make a difference.

mind you if I was spending that kind of money, I'd probably go through a dealer and not privately.

I bought my impreza through subaru for example as it was a load of cash and didn;t fancy buying something so new and complex from a random bloke.

and i bet yr bmw is even more expensive !

Thing is though, different market for the ferraris etc.

£30k is going to be a fair wedge to soemone and as said, I'd expect a lot of buyers to want finance.

£90k you can either afford it or you can't. If you need finance for the car, it's unliekly you'll be able to afford the insurance and serving etc so they are actually more likely to go as a 'cash' buy (bank transfer or something).

5t.

Thanks to all for the info. Seems like I might have to px it then and take the biggest spanking possible lol.

I will give autotrader a go though if the fees aren't too bad.

I'm still a little surprised by Zip's comments though. Zip, are you saying that most people that but a £30-£50k car don't even put in £10k of cash??

I wouldn't know about 'most' people, I just know that borrowing that much for a private sale is very difficult.

I remember when I was looking to buy a Porsche before my turbo - I found one as a private sale and contacted a finance company who'd been recommended.
They wouldn't lend me £20k UNLESS the vendor could 'sell' his car to a friendly dealer who would then 'sell' it back to me. (dealer obviously take £500 for his trouble).

As it was, another one came up for sale privately but had a balloon outstanding with a finance company I was using - this meant they would lend me the money as they already had an interest in the car.

You could try Sale or Return - not without it's pitfalls, however, but you might realise a better price.
