Gary Speed dead.
The majority of the comments in this thread are laughable and the opinions of people without a bloody clue, I just pray no one suffers any sort of break down at any point within their 'perfect lives.'
One in four people within the UK will suffer from some type of mental health issue at some point within their life!

This thread has been ruined by the bickering, start another thread on the subject, it's an argument that no side will win.
Les, this is an Internet discussion forum where speculation is rife.
I am not trying to prove anything, just think of something logical that would drive someone to suicide. The most obvious explanation would be severe depression however this was not apparent publically. Getting on great in the Wales manager position, wife, 2 kiddies and assumptions of being financially sound.
It's the Internet, these rumours are already rife on Facebook and the likes. I guess it's just how people react into making sense of things.
None of our business of course but then neither is 90% of the stuff we read in the media.

Fair enoiugh to want to state an opinion, but without any inside information it is unfair and even dangerous to speculate in such a case especially when it involves comment on a person's personal life which might be less than complimentary. So far no one has any idea what drove him to suicide.

I just can't fathom it.
If you are on your own with no dependants or loved ones, then fine.
But, he had a family.
This WILL destroy them.
My point was all about speculating on his reasons for doing it.

That is over simplifying it but that's the truth of it really.
I found a chap hanging in a tree once. He'd done it with a tie and stood on a stool. He could have actually stood up it was so low but the tie was silk and had pulled very very tight.
Called the cops and waited on them arriving and warned people not to let kids come past.
He'd done it because his mrs had refused to let him see his daughter. Not a single news story about it.
No idea what issues Gary had, he's actually outside the 'normal' suicide range. It tends to be blokes between 18 and 35 and hanging is the normal way of going. The theory is, it is because blokes are less likely to ask someone for help when they find themselves getting depressed about something.
5t.
And those were the stats.
Of course people do jump of bridges etc too but young men and hanging is the most common.
At risk of being blasted, the really selfish ones are the ones that jump in front of a train etc because then you've essentially forced soemone to kill you and they might not find that easy to deal with. The memory of doing it stays with them for the rest of their lives.

I've been on a train that had someone jump in front of it off a bridge. There was no sympathy from any passengers, in fact people were even making jokes about anyone want a pair of shoes etc. It was during the World Cup a couple of yeas ago and people just wanted to get home to watch the footie. They didn't give a toss about the person killed as in their view they were selfish to involve so many other people, worst of all the driver of the train.

I think in these modern times, the pressure just gets to people.
There is nowhere to hide in this digital age. Everything can be accounted for.
I am not saying he did, but I wouldn't be surprised if he cheated on this mrs or something similar.

I kind of saw a person doing that about 20 years ago.
Now, I didn't see all of the splatter, but I certainly heard it

I seen some of the mess sadly.
I suspect the train drivers are completely traumatised as a result
Very unfortunate for his family and now his children are without a farther.
There is no situation that is bad enough to deprive your own children of the benefit of your love and life experience with support and guidance, not much of an example, and his actions cancel out all his previous achievments, as sadly this is all he will be remembered for now.
Very very sad for his children.
And by the sounds of the direction of the speculation, it was not depression but the fear of shame that led him to this, if that turns out to be the case, then he was indeed a coward, and very selfish.
I really do hope thats not true for the sake of his family.
RIP.

I see the Sun interviewed one of Speed's best mates yesterday, Shearer, it did make me think if they had something on Speed would they now bother to run it knowing how well thought of Gary Speed was ? They know the public clamour for this type of journalism but it could back fire massively.

That's the problem with open forums, speaking your mind n all that.
