Angry I wouldn't normally do this, but...

I've been wanting to see this car for weeks and have been in contact with the owner many times via PM since well before xmas and spoke to him on the phone a few days ago. Xmas got in the way as regards visiting, but I finally managed to travel up to look today.

Bearing in mind the amount of contact that I've had with the seller, he's had plenty of opportunity to tell me about the car, and from what he had told me and the pics that are linked in this thread, I was motivated and very keen to view/test drive.

It's a bit of a mission, getting off the Isle of Wight. 20 mins from my house to the ferry terminal, it's generally a half hour wait to get on the ferry, then the crossing is around an hour to Southampton. Total travel time to London and back from my house is around 8 hours; not something I undertake lightly as apart from a good chunk of a day gone, it's reasonably expensive too. This is why I asked the seller to be as honest as he could be before I made the trip.

Imagine my disappointment, irritation, disbelief and annoyance when I walk up to the car and notice;
  • A largish scuff on the front wing
  • Some overspray on the lower windscreen surround
  • Overspray on internal trim of the front door shut
  • Overspray all the way round the upper door trims where they meet the roof line
  • Overspray on the foglight in the rear bumper
  • Overspray on the dirt near the front door hinges(!)
  • A little overspray inside the bonnet scoop
  • Some rust round the windscreen
  • A rear door that didn't shut very well
  • A badly done filler job in the forward A-pillar (there are little pinholes dotted all over it).

All of this on the driver's side, the passenger side is actually really clean

Obviously, I query the owner on all this stuff and he tells me that he wasn't aware of any of it and that it was probably the previous owner. I seriously doubt this as the paint looked pretty new to me but I'm no expert but that's why I took my mate along who runs a garage and bodyshop. He reckoned it was recent work, couldn't believe what a crap job it was and that the car might have been in some kind of incident. I stress that this was just our opinion and the seller may have been telling us the truth. I did HPI the car and it was clear.

I'm afraid I didn't even want to hear the car run, as I walked away before I was tempted to say rude things to the owner. As such, I can't comment on what the engine or gearbox are like for anyone who's contemplating a visit.

This was at the cheaper end of the market given that it's a JDM car, but even so, I wouldn't have expected to find all the stuff that I did find. I didn't really have to dig that deep either, most of the overspray was bloody obvious. Repairs are normal and to be expected to a certain extent, but this looked like the entire driver's side of the car had been blown in without a single piece of trim being removed and masked up pretty badly.

This cost me around £150 and 8 hours of my weekend. Caveat emptor.

When a car's too cheap there's usually a reason. Shame it was waste of you money and time.

All the same. Thats Cricklewood. I find all them areas to be dodgy. Certain places I would never buy a car, from regardless how cheap it was.

+1, I'm sure there are genuine people in that area but I would never buy from there either.

I bought this car and despite a little paint I am over the moon with it. So much so I will be selling on the 22B and keeping this for a while. Proper bargain too Thanks to Mo for his kind hospitality.

If you're happy with the car and what you paid, that's all that matters

Did Snetterton in this car today, despite the fuel pump packing up I had a great day. Put 2 M3s and a Porsche to shame anyway

It has had paint on the drivers side, no damage to the roof or sills. Ive had the door cards off and the doors have had very little if any filler/repairs. The front wing/doors/1/4 are all original.

Back from Holiday. Thank Damien for the confirmation it wasn't as bad as some people have stated I had after the visit of majorsarcasm contacted the person responsible for the the picture of the accident afterwards and it was just that someone had reversed into the door and as Damien will confirm not A piller front etc etc etc. When you pay £6k for an £8k car you should expect the odd scuff here and there your not going to get concours condition for £6k. How can you also tell the paint was fresh when it was done ages ago and I can provide proof of the same now. I didn't know about the repair as the car was only driven by me once or twice a month I have another car I drive and it was driven by my brother only twice a week, and it wasn't my or his pride and joy anyhow for us to check it with a magnifying glass everyweek. As to NW10 or NW2 car grow up some areas are dodgy... I just don't get that. I sold the car for very cheap as people with unrealistic expectations were wasting time. Damien the best of luck with your car
