White 1996 Forged V3 Sti, AP's, Simtek
HUpdate: Took the car in last week to get an interiment earth fault sorted (radio keeps powering off/on, dash lights dim etc). However was told that I have a more serious problem. The forged engine, which was always noisy from cold, doesn't settle when warm and could be suspected bottom end knock or large clearances on one of the pistons. Possibly when radiator failed recently?? A leak down test showed no symptoms but I'm told something isn't right. Still drives great but obviously will need money spending on engine in the future. I cannot spend any more on this car, I have a wedding to pay for!!! Car will now be sold complete as a project or if there is no interest (or no sensible offers) I have someone willing to break on my behalf. Thanks. 3500 ono
Unfortunately due to me working away, new baby and wedding to pay for I'm going to have to sell my Scoob. This is a very regretable sale but i can't justify my weekend toy anymore. It will be available from mid January (I'm working away at the moment and can't do any viewings).
1996 V3 STI (JDM) in 230 White
History:
This is a late 96 model JDM V3 STI which was imported by Ralliart UK (now Extreme) and has had 5 UK owners before I acquired the vehicle on the 09/05/2009.
Taxed until: 30/04/2012
Mot until: 17/03/2012
Mileage: Odometer currently shows 114160 and is recording miles now. The first 75,000 of the history are in KM. Replacement forged engine with 10,000 miles fitted at 107,201. So current engine has done 17k miles. (The original engine which i had rebuilt decided to break a valve after 5,000 miles and destroy itself, hence the replacment engine)
Engine: (puchased from Dazzlers82 on here)
- API built CDB with Wossner pistons, forged rods, ACL bearings.
- Version 1/2 heads
- Up-rated oil pump
- Up-rated fuel pump (Walbro)
- K&N air filter with RCM spun trumpet and Samco inlet hose.
- 850cc injectors (larger than required for current set up as I had planned on a 6 speed & bigger turbo in the future)
- SX Fuel Pressure Regulator
- TD05-20g (origin unknown, was on the car when I bought it)
- Simtek ECU with Switchable anti-lag and launch control (mapped by Bob Rawle). 1st map runs 1.6bar, 2nd map 1.2 bar and can be used for lower octane fuel although I have only ever used V Power or Momentum.
- API, standard, ported, un-equal length headers (tried equal length but I missed the burble!)
- H&S 3” 100 cell sport cat downpipe (avoids any hassles at MOT time) with full 3” Miltek system.
- Autobahn FMIC
- 3 port boost solenoid
- New radiator (2 weeks ago)
- Has currently got a water injection system fitted but the pump has gone and has been disconnected. The car was mapped without so no problems there but could be easily repaired if required.
Drivetrain:
- Standard 5 speed TY752 (no problems at all)
- AP Racing organic clutch
Suspension:
- Standard STI shocks and springs
- Whiteline anti-lift kit and uprated 22mm rear anti roll bar
- Powerstation fast road/track day geometry set up
Wheels/Tyres:
- Standard blobeye STI wheels refurbed in dark gunmetal (with pearlescent flake)
- Toyo Proxes (215/40/17) all round with 6 mm of tread
- Black lightweight tuner nuts
Brakes:
- Front - AP Racing 4 pot calipers with Godspeed 2 piece 330mm grooved discs & Ferodo DS2500 pads
- Rear – 2 pot caliper conversion with brand new Godspeed 290mm grooved discs and kevlar pads (<100miles, not even bedded in yet)
- New HEL stainless braided hoses front and back (2 weeks ago)
Interior:
Essentially standard except:
- Lockwood white dials
- Carbon effect trim around the controls, console, vents.
- Kenwood KDC 241SG CD head unit (ipod input)
- Lamco boost gauge on the top of steering column.
- Nardi steering wheel
The interior is immaculate (no rips or tears in any of the seats)
Bodywork:
MINT! Totally standard, other than the wheels. Recently had rear arches done, new splitter, colour coded skirts, car park dents sorted. (Thanks very much to Prodrive rules!)
- Crystal front indicators and side repeaters
- Aluminium bonnet
Security:
Autowatch 160RLI Thatcham Category 1 alarm & immobilizer
I have an extensive folder of all UK history, receipts and MOT’s (Tileys, Powerstation, API, Scoobyprojects, Godspeed etc.) I/ve spent well over 10K on it, not including the original purchase price of the car. (If i sat down and totalled it all up i'd probably cry!)
Private plate: B11 WRX included in the sale.
I've not had it dynoed in its current spec but I would estimate it to be 350-360bhp (which is the limit of the current gearbox). Car was used as a weekend toy for fast road and one track day. Driven hard when i had the opportunity but always treated with mechanical sympathy. For example, i have NEVER used the launch control, i was waiting for the 6 speed! Always warmed up and cooled down properly with regular oil changes (silkolene Pro S 10W-50) and servicing.
Bad Bits:
- Currently only 1 working key fob for the alarm but I will be ordering a replacement.
- The engine is quite noisy from cold due to piston slap, however once warm its sweet.
New photos now added (not the best as it was an overcast day) but i can get more and email any specific pictures that people want.
Sorry breaking is not an option for me so don't ask. Any other questions please fire away.

Hi Ryan,
Nothing really I had noticed, other than an earth fault, but took it in to Scooby Projects and they had a good look and said the engine is on its way out!!!! I had someone lined up to buy it as well. That's the end of Scooby ownership for me!! Not happy. I'm too honest mate to try and cover it up now I'm aware of it. Will be broken mate or sold complete as a project.
