People are not born fat, 'ugly' is (usually!) a subjective term, wearing spectacles is a lifestyle choice, but your skin colour is what you are born with and cannot be changed, that is the difference here.

they could be born fat due to a gene disorder, born ugly yes, spectacles arent a lifestyle choice, some people cant have eye surgery or wear contact lenses

As for skin colour change, Micheal Jackson

One at a time...

1) If they are born due to a gene disorder, that is very rare and unfortunate, but since the insulter cannot have any prior knowledge of it, then it's fair game I (and most others) would say.
2) Ugly is of course a subjective term! Look at all the ugly married people.
3) True, but other than nine-year olds in the school playground, who calls someone else 'speccy'?!
4) He had a skin condition!

In my book and experience... yes it is.

Someone calls me a ****... it's an opinion and they're entitled to it.

Someone calls me a black ****, to me it implies that I'm a **** because I am black.

If I want to hurl abuse at someone, the colour of their skin or hair is irrelevant... I'll just get to the point and be done with it.

Saying that, in most cases I have found that half the people who say that sort of thing haven't thought before they've opened their mouths... their sole purpose is to hurt the other person with no appreciation as to how much it actually affects them.

My son is only two at the moment, he's mixed race and has ginger hair... something tells me that he's going to need pretty thick skin.

get him to the nearest boxing gym as soon as he can walk. that child is going to get a load of abuse (kids being what they are). being handy with his fists may dissuade some of them from opening their mouths.

I'd also add, he may want to start talking like a pikey. A ginger boxing pikey is someone not to be messed with.

Had this discussion on another forum.

If it's not right to mention race/colour, why, then, is it one of the first things the POLICE mention: IC1 male, IC2 female?

FFS some people really are missing the point!

It's not that it's racist to call a black person black, as the police do, when used to identify them. Of course that is not racist, no one is suggesting it is, and is just a straw-man argument. It becomes racist when using someone's skin-colour in the context of an insult.

I have often wondered why whenever the Stephen Lawrence case comes up in the press he is referred to as "black teenager stephen lawrence"

Context.

In my job, lower ranks wear blue shirts & senior ranks wear white shirts.
If someone calls an officer 'a *****' it is a personal insult.
If they call him 'a white-shirted *****' that implies that they have a problem with authority and the insult was motivated by their rank.

For me it's the same difference with calling someone a c*nt or a black c*nt.

It's unjustified imho, there is no need to call anyone a [insert colour = not ok] [insert swear word(s) = ok].

If a football fan in the stands was caught saying the same thing to a player, they would be banned from every ground in the country with other punishments on top.

The so called England captain playing in front of millions should be setting a example and should face a similar punishment in my opinion.

Sounds about right.

Is it racist, yes. Was it a daft thing to say in the heat of the moment, yes. A fine and poss a short ban, then get on with life.

Terry just showed himself (again) for what he is; a thick as **** no-mark with an exagerated sense of his own importance

As ScoobyDriverWannabe said, he should be banned from every ground in the country, just like a crowd member (who has paid, rather than been paid, to be there) caught doing it would be

I also think he should no longer be playing for England, but that's mainly because he's ****

Chelsea Training Session:

John Terry gets the ball and dribbles it around Malouda then Ramires, Cole, Drogba and finally Anelka.

Andre Villas Boas shakes his head and shouts "CONES JOHN, I SAID DRIBBLE AROUND THE CONES"

I did put up a thread about this from a different perspective.

I don't think it is unforgiveable or PC gone mad.

I find it odd that it is reasonable for the England captain to call an opposing player a **** and a f**king ******** and for this to be perfectly reasonable.

Rooney was heavily censored for saying f**k - never mind calling someone a ****.

Black or otherwise it is not sporting behaviour in any way.

Same for that **** in the English rugby team that was caught saying it out loud live on ITV at 9am!

It is possible he would have faced some sort of 'telling off' if he had just called him a c***/f**ing ********, but it seems to me that it has become so much more serious because race was brought into it, to the point of involving the police.

Personally it is either ok, or not, to use offensive language or insult other people and the race aspect shouldn't be the deciding factor. An insult is an insult regardless of what is attatched to it. I know people can lash out in frustration, so I wouldn't necessarily say that person should either get away with it, nor would I say they should face a sacking, they should be dealt with in some way so they know that there isn't free reign to call people what they like.

Quick Reply: John Terry. Unforgivable or PC too far?
