Death of the iPad imminent ...

Picked up a 32GB wifi only IPad 2 while abroad in Singapore on business recently. I didn't intend on getting one but noticed they were quite a bit cheaper in the Apple shop than in the UK. If I didn't get on with it I was going to sell it on.
I absolutely love it. It is by far the best gadget I have ever bought. Even the Mrs who at the time said "what a waste of money you have a laptop" raves about it. Came into it's own on my recent holls, sitting beside the pool watching the Rugby world cup live on the ITV RWC app (via VPN). Awesome!!! Used some of the other tablets available since and nothing comes close. Like the poster above, I am no Apple fanboy but it really is a terrific device.
Can't wait for the OS update!

The whole Apple thing is rather vomit inducing treacle isn't it?
I find it attracts a certain type of person ...... which is fine, it makes them 'feel' part of something - gives them a reason for living. Which is a good thing.
I, on the other hand, will continue to resist the Americanism that is the Apple Store.

The main point is however, they work blóody well with little brain power required to operate them. It should therefore suit you more than most!

That's an easy one. Anyone buying a Galaxy without a contract is being ripped off buy Samsung, their phones are obviously very cheap or they wouldn't be given away with a contract. The build quality of Apple products will always command a premium and don't forget the after sales service, that's not free you know.

I like Apple stuff but I do find the whole thing a little cult-like....mainly the blue shirted people who work in their shops...they are a bit too eager and nice...makes me slightly uncomfortable.
I've got a MacBook Pro and a couple of Ipods. Do I hang on Steve Jobs' every word and make a calendar entry for when the latest IPad comes out? No.
Would I buy another MacBook? Sure. Don't think I would go back to PC's.
I've got a BlackBerry phone though. Does the job.

Only slight difference is that I have the obligatory iPhone 3GS (personal) and Blackberry torch 9800 (business) and I prefer the iPhone for general use. iPhone wins in browsing, ease of use, layout, OS but Blackberry scores points on start up time and camera.
Bought Mrs SiPie an Ipad2 a few months ago and must admit that due to already having an iPhone I hardly ever pick it up. My phone would need to be upstairs and the iPad close to hand to make me pick it up.
Look after a print production team in a large finance company in Edinburgh and have used both mac and pc on my desk for over 13 years, like both with no significant preference but obviously use the Mac for anything Acrobat or In Design based.
In summary, horses for courses and I constantly find the Jack Clarks of this world (and there are many) highly amusing.
Could this be the death of the iPad....?
Nope, a minor flesh wound perhaps, possibly even an amputation but No, not death.

Excellent, you're taking my comments correctly. For those that have missed it in the past, my comments are for amusement only, in person you wouldn't know I use a Macintosh and they're certainly not a topic of conversation, on here though it spices things up and is as you say is highly amusing.

I do enjoy ScobyNet, the first hour or two of my day consists of drinking a cup of tea and reading all the crap such as this.
Firslty, I highly doubt Apple will be worried in the slightest by the new Kindle. It's a low priced, low spec Android tablet designed to be a media viewer and web browser. It's Android based so will be able to do other stuff, but that depends on how much Amazon have modified the OS. Plus it has no hardware buttons which could hinder it. I'm sure it will sell well for the money, but I feel it's a different market they are after.
As for innovation, Apple's new voice thing, how can that be their innovation when they have just bought a company to acquire their technology? That's all companies seem to do now, buy patents and tech from other companies then sue others for having something similar. Google didn't invent Android, they bought it. Apple bought Siri. Google recently bought a shed load of patents, then gave some to HTC so they could sue Apple. It's all a bit childish to me.
Samsung, HTC and LG etc... I see as being in competition with each other hence the lower contract costs. They all have Android based phones, Apple only has the iPhone which uses iOS. To me it has no competition as it is the only phone to use that OS. If you like Android you have loads of choices, if you like iOS you have only Apple. And as long as people like iOS and are willing to keep paying a premium, they will keep charging for it. I personally do not like iOS so will never look at an iPhone, I much prefer Android and the flexibility it has.

Funnily enough that's exactly how I see my iPad, a big iPhone, I love the iPhone but now hardly touch it other than for calls as I have one with a bigger screen and more storage.

I do wonder, sometimes, whether the Apple products are so good that they are really worth what they charge for them ................
.

.
and then I see the typical Apple customer and I come to the conclusion that they are just simpletons, easily led and duped by sugar coated marketing hype.
