I watch a lot of different sports on Sky and they give a good coverage within their own powers with the minimum of interference from adverts. If the programme is their own production, such as international cricket, they always have top quality commentators.
I would prefer to see what they actually produce in the way of F1 coverage when it happens rather that make wild pronouncements with no substantiation.

As for Tony Jardine he is actually very knowledgable about F1, but his presentaton manner is poor, he pitches at a lower IQ audience than actually watch F1.
As for getting Alonso's name wrong anyone can make a mistake and it is only Alonso at the end of the day!

Personally, I think this is the start of the end for F1 in the UK.
After the Sky/BBC deals ends we'll probably lose Silverstone and end up hosting the European GP every 5/6 years and that'll be it.
With countries like USA, India, etc all getting onboard, the UK will be kicked into touch. This is just Bernies way of milking the last drop of cash from the time we have left.
Bernie's already said in the past that we could lose Silverstone and as the sport grows worldwide, it will go eventually.

The fact is you can still see every race on the BBC albeit some of them delayed, and anyway football hasn't died after going to Sky...quite the opposite.

Time will tell, but just because the tech is based here doesn't mean we have to have a race here. If that was the case, the other 19 races wouldn't work.
As for the 17 year deal, I'm pretty sure both sides can get out of it after 10 years which would be 2020 and that isn't much after the Sky/BBC deal ends anyway in 2018.
Extended highlights isn't quite the same as a delayed full race, so the BBC coverage isn't any substitution for watching it live and in full.
As for football, that's not really comparing eggs with eggs is it.
A decent football match gets about 2mil viewers on sky. F1 gets about 5mil (on BBC) but not for long.

As for F1 and football not being a fair comparison you may be right, didn't realise football matches were watched by so few given the way everyone goes on about it. Personally I have no time for it whatsoever so I tend to take little notice of it.

The British GP is one of the most popular for fans, drivers and the teams, and is ingrained in the history of the sport too (something that I believe the FIA is starting to realise, going to places where there is no racing heritage is not a good long-term bet, see Turkey and hopefully Bahrain).
Though I don't like them, I don't think Sky's involvement will begin the downfall of F1 in this country. But as a sponsor I'd be a bit pee'd off about viewing figures potentially plumetting as a result, and I doubt this new revenue would fill that hole. I suspect this isn't over yet.

Indeed,
i would like to see it return to what it should be ...racing, not politics controversy & coverage arguments .
Who gives a fig if a certain mutimedia provider shows the procession, or if certain teams use every technicality in the rule book, all i would like to see is racing.

So Canada, Hungary, Germany and Silverstone were all boring races were they? Did you actually watch them?
May be the 'real' fans that will now have to pay over £400 a year to watch every race live give a 'frig' about what is going on.

And because you watch every race, makes you some sort of authority on the subject?
I stopped watching F1 some time ago when it became uber political with team orders and the boring procession that was called racing.
You have the option, pay £400 and watch it under sky, or do what most of us do, watch it on tv.... will your world end if you dont see every race, live or otherwise.. i dont think so...
And yes the format at the moment is boring .
As an aside, why do people get so anti when someone criticises or begs to differ about a sport.
what i think is my opinion, i dont like the current format, and until it undegoes major changes, i dont care where its shown.

Having said all that I suggest you take a peek at the current season, the best season for a long time in terms of overtaking and actual racing. I know what you mean abit it being a procession a few years ago, but it has changed quite a bit since then. Take a look and see what you think

If I have watched every race for the last 15 years or so, yes, I would say I had a little knowledge on the subject. How can you comment on the current format if you don't watch it?
Please explain.

You will get the full race delayed not just highlights. The teams will insist in it, this whole highlights thing is just a bargaining chip!

OK,if you are sure Football is so popular on Sky,why not try to do something similar broadcast same match on BBC and SKY..
F1 and Football fans are two different groups,i'm not sure if this will be biggest mistake or biggest win for CVC/F1/FIA/FOTA,but we will see if subscriber will go up(i mean for SKY sport) or will be same.

If they are planning to show the re-runs during prime time hours, there will be massive pressure coming from all over the place to keep the show as short as possible.

Has anyone had the same thought as me as in, how long before certain races end up on Sky Box Office like some Football matches, Boxing etc. You have to pay for Sky for Football etc and then pay again for certain matches, whos to say this won't happen with F1 on Sky?
As with the comment made earlier regarding TV Licence, if you own a TV you HAVE to have a TV Licence (at ~£115 a year), that's so you can watch anything on it, not just F1 so technically it IS free to watch now. A TV Licence isn't just to watch BBC channels anymore. It's a bit different to paying for Sky (Minimum £10.25 per month with just freeview channels only) and then having to buy a Sports package (£12.25 per month for Sky Sports 1 only) just to watch one race every two weeks. So, if you really want to compare it on cost per custom, even at the very basic Sky package, it is still over double the cost of watching it on BBC.

Considering the time needed to show the full race, pre and post coverage as well, I would be amazed if this happens with the non-live races on the BBC.

Dunno tbh, I just assumed they were still doing it with the football? Even though we have Sky Sports I don't watch it, it's only used by my dad to watch Golf.
