Nottingham has a good tram service though, why don't people use that? And from what I remember, the park and ride was quite good and cheap too, especially if you car share. Not defending the council, it is actually a good idea not to drive into a city centre.

Tram service is not that good at all depending on where you live in Nottingham. Park and ride is a bit better but not if you have to drive past your workplace to then catch a bus back into town.

As someone said earlier - Nottingham City/County Council hate the motorist but will do anything in their power to fleece them at every opportunity.

I avoid shopping in the city now.

Unfortunately not. This was covered in the pamphlet - your employer may pay rent on the land but as they are providing space for you to park there, they pay.

For most of the people I work with, public transport is not viable for both financial and journey time reasons.
Well that's easy enough then. If I were in Nottingham city, I would only have 1 carparking space. A ****ing big one, strangely enough the exact same dimensions as the carpark

they want you to use public transport and then they cancel the buses/trains

they don't want you to drive to work so they charge you extra for doing so...

Be very afraid! Nottingham were among the first to have SPECS camera and now they are everywhere.

Wait till your greedy council learn of a way to gain a few million extra under the false reasoning of being green and they'll jump at it

Not if another company is paying the rent for the car park. If you are employed by company X, but company Y owns the land and lets you park there you may be able to get around the issue.

As you are parking on Y's land, but not working for them, they will not be incurring a charge. Nor will X, as they have nothing to do with the car park, even if just happens to be 2 metres from their front door.

Just need to split up the land that companies own, so that the land for parking is in another company.

I have 30 marked out parking spaces. Do I need to get rid of them to avoid paying the levy?

Marked out parking spaces are different to workplace parking places.

You will need to license any workplace parking places that you provide. A workplace parking places is a place on a premises inside the Nottingham City Council administrative boundary area, that is occupied by a vehicle used by an employee, pupil, student or regular business visitor.

Employers that provide 11 or more workplace parking places may need to pay a charge from 1st April 2012.

Marked out spaces that are empty, or occupied by customers, occasional business visitors or fleet vehicles will not need to be licensed and will not be charged (please see exemptions and discounts).

Hmm, customer parking is free.

So, if you have a ton of spaces for your staff and are company X. Sell your land to company Y (one that you have control over). Then setup a stall selling penny chew sweets. All the employee's for company X park on company Y's land and buy a sweetie, hence become a customer. Costs you 1p to park per day, no levy payable

My wife works at Nottingham university. She drives a mini cooper. The university is charging according to emissions rather than vehicle size! Her car is in band I. We are not chuffed. Will be £300 a year with increases in line with inflation. Tosspots!

The council i work for has just upped our parking charges from £250 per year to £600 per year for a scooby yet they require me to supply a car as part of my job and they pay me mileage to do site visits.

But dont worry they dont give me any more salary i am just expected to swallow the extra cost so Nottingham sounds pretty cheap to me.

NHS / University car parking is a bit different as the land if often Crown Property, The universities often have different rights and can charge what they like.

NHS is a different again and a real nightmare.......If I go to Newcastle it's £8 per day, £40 a week, £160 a month..........just multiply by 12 for a year (ish).

Carlisle is much cheaper

I hope that Boots have the ***** to move not just their "parking provision" but there entire operations to outside of the city boundary - that way the greedy councillors can whistle both for the new workplace parking levy and the existing (probably millions of pounds a years) business rates.

Lets hope that Boots has the ***** to do what they said, Move.

It's in every ones interest that this scheme fails.

Our local Council introduced parking charges, consequently business in the town centre dropped by up to 50%. But they still dont see it....

Here you quite often see 2 smart cars in one space
You can be sure that they will send the "thought police" around to check on car parking and the number of cars using it.

Wonder how long before they decide to charge all those who park their own car on their own land!
