I agree that the guy was an idiot for drinking lager whilst driving (he had just come to stop in traffic, he wasn't parked), but then I do think that Kieren should have just reported him. Do you think it is possible that the driver might have assumed that you might have been the fuzz? You know that is a serious crime too don't you.

Just for the record?
In amongst all the banter, insults (
) and jokes: I've actually appreciated a lot of the replies. They've made me think about how I approach these situations and demonstrated alternative ideas to me. It never occurred to me at the time about anything kicking off: I just saw something wrong and intervened.
However, while cycling home last night I was thinking long and hard about what was said while I was sat in the same queue of traffic. Not come to any conclusions yet, but these things take time.

Thin bit of the wedge here.
All it needs is the police to give bloody powers to cyclists to shop errant drivers with their poxy cams and it completes the dustbin men shopping us for the wrong kind of rubbish, park wardens shopping our kids for picking flowers etc.
There was no evidence he was drunk, so what if he was having a drink of stella, you cant prove it was his first or 5th.
You said you had every right to film him
I think he had every right to tell you to **** off and get out of the car to prove his point

In your opinion. Not a law being broken.
Like someone doing 25 in a crowded street, but the limit is 30mph. Not sure why it is spineless to let people go about their lawful business. If you think the law is wrong then try to get it changed, like in some States where it is illegal to have unsealed alcohol in the car. Then it would be more certain that an offence was committed.

Get real, there's a big difference in stepping in if you see someone attacking a woman/stealing a car/ burglary etc.. and being a general busy body! It was none of his business, and he had no right whatsoever to tell him to empty the can! I dont agree that its right to drink a beer whilst behind the wheel, but - ITS NONE OF MY BUSINESS!

Personally the fact that you made a deal then broke it says plenty about your personality and motivations. If you cared about drink driving as a moral issue then you would have reported him straight away. That way the police could have followed him pulled him and if he was over the limit then another drink driver is off the road. You made him pour away his drink and clearly that gave you some satisfaction, that power element appealed to the bully side of you personality and then you reported him anyway. Your simple post indicates that you are dishonest, power hungry, and insecure. I would suggest you take a long hard look at yourself.
I have drunk beer while driving before many times as a youth I would drink a bottle or two of becks in the car at the start of a long trip. I cannot see a problem if you stay below the legal limit. You are only breaking the law if the action of drinking effects on your driving.

What is irresponsable about drinking a drink in a car ? Millions of people eat or drink on the move every day why do you think cars have cup holders ?

Me too.
I must've also missed the bit where I mentioned that it was too late to breathalyse him as he was off and away after I spoke to him, making it impossible to convict him of DUI at the time.
but hey - let's not let the facts get in the way of a good old rant.

Yep - SPOKE to the Police about it. I made no statement. There's a huge difference.
I don't see why you would tell him to pour his beer out, I've been driving to the football on more than 1 occasion where the boys have had a few tins along the way and I have had a quick sip (mainly cause I smoke and after a ciggie it’s nice to have something to drink to ease the throat).
If you had done that to me I would have laughed at you, others would have got out of their car and started a scrap or poured the beer out on your head!
The sensible and correct thing to do is to take a note of the number plate and ring the police. You’re not a copper so why try and act like one?? There is a reason coppers wear stab proof vests and there not for style!

There's no excuse.
The one valid point is what difference does it make weather it's beer or water, if you are under the limit.
Where someone chooses to drink alcohol is their choice.
We live in a free society supposedly.
As stated it's not something i would do, but thats more to do with liking a nice pint of ale while reading the paper in my local, than the rights or wrongs of this particular situation.
I think it says more about power hungry ranger burns Administering swift justice and enforcing his will upon the rest of the world than the so called ******.
Oh and how do we know he is a ****** by what he drives maybe
People in glass houses should not throw stones.
