I think Teachers shouldn't be allowed to go straight from uni to Teaching without any real world experience.

I heard a Teacher say something similar on Sky today...how they were striking to 'protect' everyone pensions.

I sincerely hope if I have kids than nobody so dishonest ends up teaching them.

It's basic maths. The level of debt for UK PLC is too high! The country cannot continue to spend more than it takes in?

Why do so many people seem unable to understand this?

 

After this thread it seems like turning down teaching to go into the real world wasn't such a good idea after all.

 

And should the Government just sit back and just do what the unions dictates? Should the Government just sit back and let the public sector pension deficit grow? You mention increased taxes, the only proposal offered by the Unions is to increase taxes further to plug the deficit!!

You often find teachers have no real idea how the world works. I would think that if more teachers got a taste of real life, you wouldn't have so many breakdowns amongst the profession. We know of a couple of teachers on the sick from having breakdowns years ago - one has been since she was 26! They are complete nervous wrecks and neither have any real grasp of reality.

 

I think this explains everything.

 

There was a few Teachers at my school who have breakdowns.

I do wonder if it is the 'stress' of the profession, or something else? I can imagine that if you Teach from say your early/mid 20's you would have very little perspective on things (having never mixed it up in the REAL world of work) even when you get older....maybe that is something to do with it?

 

I love how teachers seem to have no concept that their relatively comfortable, safe and simple jobs are paid for by the private sector. The private sector is now pissed off with paying for teachers large pensions when they are struggleing themselves and the government is doing somthing about it. If teachers don't want to work they should be sacked and their pensions forfeit.

 

Everyone is going to be worse off while we remain in recession. We just have not got the cash and we cannot afford the interest rates to get any worse by borrowing it.

I think people should accept that if the country's economy did go down the tubes, everyone would be in a financial hole which would be very painful.

We have to recover from the mess that NL has got us into with its totally irresponsible financial policies-ie just keep borrowing it and **** against the wall!

We have to accept that there will be financial downsides until we get on top of the situation.

Mass strikes will put us a lot closer to going to the wall!

We should all be up in arms and striking over Government cuts. Most of the Construction work we did was Government funded, Schools, universities, Hospitals etc. Most of the planned projects were canceled due to the economic downturn. Damn the Government....... We should protest over this. Tell them to keep spending and spending, I don't want to be affected. None of this was my fault, so why should I suffer in any way whatsoever.

Then we can all go the way of Greece....... virtually bankrupt.

 

Basically, what Teachers are demanding is that the everday man and woman in the street -

.... who have had to suffer 0% payrises for years,

had their Pension pots decimated,

had to work extra hours without pay,

suffered job losses,

lost leave .....

these are the people Teachers think should fund their twice annual payrises (septembers rise is 7.5%), their fat pay packets, their amazing Pension scheme where you retire on 75% of your final salary after just 30 years!!

Why is it they are blind to who pays their wages? And who will be funding each of their Pensions for about 40 years?

They work for 30 years and get paid 75% for 40 years .... how can they think that is sustainable?

Stupidity at its most obvious ....

 

I wonder if the greeks retiring at 50 has had any bearing on this


- in Zim a teacher gets less than 200 dollars a MONTH ! for producing the best education in the whole continent , kind of gives some kind of perspective

Perhaps they blame teachers for their own past educational failures and current social inadequacies. Personally, I think they are probably just poor misguided fools who believe all the lies that the politicians and media feed them.

The sad thing is that I thought some of them generally posted in a controversial style for dramatic effect, but this thread shows them up for what they really are.

I dont buy the idea that we are being hoodwinked by those in charge , and that in reality the coffers are full . i wish i had anything like the pension package a teacher can expect !

I would agree 68 is too old but check out the rest of us - in the real world its city bankers and greeks only that can expect to retire at 50

Clearly you side with the teacher and perhaps support the strike, that's fine. If so instead of pension reform, what do you suggest the Government should do to plug the £30bn pension deficit and reduce the cost to the taxpayers for funding such an unsustainable public pension. I would stick my neck out and , like those who have posted in support of the teachers and the general strike, guess you won't have an answer.

 

As you are collecting benefits and not paying tax then I can see that you have nothing to lose by supporting those who the taxpayer supports financially.

If you were not in receipt of a Comfortable Living Allowance, you would have a different point of view!

I've been a teacher for 35 years and I still don't earn £40,000 - I have to suffer all the **** your hopeless, hapless spawn give out on a daily basis. I live for the day when National Service is reintroduced and the majority of your ****wit kids are reduced to cannon fodder - because the majority of you arsehole parents have managed to evade the above! it just doesnt add up they get more on a pension than i get bloody working for starters , secondly i pay in £65quid a month to get £3k a year i bet they dont pay in £520 a month to get the £24k a year , its simple maths that they are teaching our kids , how come they dont understand pensions is beond me

 

Teacher for 35 years and haven't climbed above £40,000? We have 26 year olds earning more than that as Teachers!! ...... looking at your post I'm staggered you haven't been SACKED, let alone restricted on pay!!!
